Air Gear/Characters

This is the character page for the characters of Air Gear:

Kogarasumaru

Itsuki "Ikki" Minami

"Don't you... want to go? I'll make it for you... inside this mold filled cage. I will show you... the SKY!"

Itsuki Minami is the male protagonist of the series. Prior to the beginning of the series, he was established as the leader of his school's gang, the East Side Gunz. There, he earned the nickname "Babyface", which has followed him into the A·T world. He has shown an extreme amount of talent with the Air Treck, to the point of being a genius at it. Founder of the team Kogarasumaru, as well as its leader. He is the current Storm King of the Hurricane Road.

Agito/Akito/Lind Wanijima

Agito/Akito/Lind Wanijima are the three personas inhabiting the body of Kaito Wanijima's younger brother.

The youngest and dominant persona, Agito was created by Akito to cope with the mental stress created by his pacifist nature and responsibilities as Fang King. As such, his strength is derived from his desire to protect Akito. He is aloof and foul-mouthed character, despite this, he is nonetheless a valuable asset to Kogarasumaru.

Akito is dominant personality prior to Agito's creation and his polar opposite in almost every aspect. He's timid, gentle and feminine both in behavior and appearance. Nonetheless he is even more frightening than Agito when angered.

Lind is the first personality of the body and was initially believed to be a copy of Kaito's personality. Ruthless, sadistic, disdainful and has a playboy attitude towards women. It was recently revealed that this personality is in fact Gazelle's, one of the original Gravity Children--responsible for the whole "Kings" thing. Also Akito and Agito's mother.

All of the personas are King-Level Bloody Road riders.

Kazuma "Kazu" Mikura

The second in command of team Kogarasumaru and the best friend of the series' protagonist, Itsuki Minami. By nature, he is insecure and timid. This introverted nature often leads others to underestimate him, especially when compared to the brasher personalities of Ikki and Agito. In reality, he is hard-working and dedicated.

Kazu is a Speed-type rider, emphasizing nimbleness and quickness in his style. He's also a copy-master as he is shown being able to copy an opponent ability.

Outside of A·T, Kazu is a competent fist-fighter and an incredible batter, although his batting form is horrendous.

Issha "Buccha" Mihotoke

Mihotoke Issa, a.k.a. Buccha is a heavily-built, tanned fighter specializing in close combat. His character design is based off the wrestler Abdullah, which is referenced by the three lines on his forehead. Before joining Kogarasumaru, he was the leader of the team Night Kings (Yaou). Buccha originally appeared in the series as a villain. After losing against Ikki in a Hurdles match, he turns into a stalwart ally of Ikki and becomes a founding member of Kogarasumaru.

Onigiri

Onigiri is of Ikki's childhood friends, Onigiri is 15 years old and also part of Kogarasumaru. His head is in the shape of an onigiri (hence the name). Onigiri is a pervert. He frequently uses his powers to peer through walls into womens bathing area and through their clothes and characterized as a pig.

Emily Adachi

Emily is part of the track team together with Yayoi Nakayama. She has short dark brown hair, sometimes depicted as black itself, along with dark brown eyes. Has a big crush on Kazu.

She eventually joins the team Kogarasumaru and acts as back-up. Even though her Air Treck skills aren't that great, she seems to be able to summon up super strength and endurance, like taking hits from powerful Storm Riders and brushing the hits off easily to her super powerful kicks and wrestling moves, through her pure strength of will and "The Power of Love".

Yayoi Nakayama

Nakayama has the ability to communicate with Ikki's crow and to tell the exact time, down to a second - a trait that is shared amongst the more affluent tuners of Tool Toul To. She later reveals that she has a crush on Agito; for whom she supports when he is weakened. It was said by Ine Makigami that she saw potential in Yayoi as an AT-Tuner, she even mistook Yayoi as the team's tuner. In fact, during Kogarasumaru's battle against the original Sleeping Forest in Inorganic Net, when Agito gets injured, she is the one who tunes him back to health and finally completes the Fang Regalia that had been merged into his A-T.

The Sleeping Forest

Kilik

"This is no laughing matter! All of you team members, zero points!"

Kilik is the Gem King of the first and current Sleeping Forest and its actual leader behind Ringo. Currently one of the main antagonists, though he is sided against the other two as well. He is an intelligent and somewhat arrogant person. Also very tactical and calculating, but despite all this, he may be rather "naive" as shown when he wished to believe that a normal person could fly higher than the Gravity Children as well as he did not expect Sora to hold Rika as a hostage.

He is considered the most powerful of the original eight Kings of Sleeping Forest and the most gifted among all the Gravity Children. His Gaia Road operates on the principles of piezoelectricity and is powerful enough to almost completely destroy a building.

Noyamano Ringo

Ringo is the female protagonist and Ikki's childhood frien and a member of the Noyamano family that adopted Ikki into their household. However, behind her seemingly plain and unimpressive guise of a junior high school student, she is actually the successor and leader of the legendary team, Sleeping Forest. She is an A-class Rider and the current Thorn Queen of the Thornier Road. She helps Kogarasumaru in times of trouble, under the guise of Croissant Mask.

She's in love with Ikki, a theme that has been used, profusely, for dramatic and comedic effect throughout the series. And now she has a good chance to get his love... after becoming his link turner.

Noyamano Mikan

Noyamano Mikan is the second eldest of the Noyamano sisters and a Gravity Child. She acts like an evil tomboyish girl with short messy pink hair, and the disciplinarian of the group.

She is regarded as Sleeping Forest's "Wind God," which implies she is a Queen-class Wind-type Rider and follows the Gale Road. She is often referred to as a "Female Gorilla" by the other characters due to her brute strength and violent tendencies. She was even strong enough to break out of Aeon Clock's "Time" technique using sheer force.

Noyamano Shiraume

Known as Ume to her family, she is the the youngest of the Noyamano family and a member of Sleeping Forest. Her hobby is the creation of puppets in the guise of gorgons, which creeps out Ringo and Ikki to no end, and she's always seen carrying one with her.

Ume is a Queen-level Storm Rider, despite her age and diminutive appearance. Although her Road has not yet been revealed, she appears to specialize in tuning and tinkering.

Genesis

Spitfire

Spitfire was the Flame King of the original Sleeping Forest and also one of the Gravity Children. He passes down his title of the Flame King to Kazu.

Yasuyoshi "Aeon Clock" Sano

Known as "Aeon Clock", is a Storm Rider who was once a member of the team called Behemoth. After Behemoth's disbanded, he was recruited into Genesis by Simca. He is normally serious, he is often used as a comic relief with his homosexuality being a recurring gag. He is very analytical, often thinking ahead.

Sano is an A-Class Storm Rider who follows the Flame Road and specializes almost exclusively in the "Time" techniques.

  • Artificial Limbs: After the incident with Takeuchi Brothers.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Except for the time when he was first introduced during the match between Kogarasumaru and Behemoth.
  • Camp Gay
  • Cool Car: He's seen driving a Lamborghini Murciélago and an Aston Martin Vanquish, among other cars.
  • Dead All Along: The last chapter reveals that the real Sano died the same day as Spitfire, and the Sano that appears afterward was a robot controlled from electric brain space.
  • Foe Yay: Seems to share a rivalry with Spitfire.
  • Does Not Like Women: With exception for Ryo Mimasaka and Simca.
  • Ho Yay: Confessed his love for Ikki.
  • Megane: See character image.
  • Time Master

Simca

Simca is a rider of the Ring Road. She wears unique looking but nothing out of the ordinary A·Ts. They are black stilettos with a single wheel. She is masterful in the art of riding, being able to perform difficult tricks, run fast, and climb buildings, but she lacks actual fighting abilities. She takes a great interest in Ikki, whom she believes is destined to one day become the legendary Rider, and who has practically idolized her since watching her ride A·T through his neighborhood. She also appears to have a somewhat romantic interest in him.

Takeuchi Sora

Sora is the former Wind King of the Wing Road, and original leader of the legendary Storm Rider team called Sleeping Forest. He would later regain his title as the Wind King and take over as the leader of Genesis along with his twin brother Nike.

He is often shown as a carefree and charismatic person albeit arrogant. He can be easy-going and friendly, but this attitude changes later on to a more serious tone. He can be egotistical when it comes to his abilities as a Storm Rider and has shown to be very manipulative of his comrades in order to reach his goal.

He is the primary antagonist of the series.

  • Always Someone Better
  • Artificial Limbs
  • Big Bad
  • Badass: He's already a Gravity Child and a King-level Rider. What makes him even more badass? It's only recently been revealed that he has NEVER turned on his Air Trecks in battle until his current fight with Ikki
  • Broken Pedestal
  • Evil Counterpart: Rik points out that Ikki reminds her so much of Sora when growing up, but Ikki is nothing like how Sora is now.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Fun guy to be around, but definitely a bastard at heart.
  • Foe Yay/Ho Yay: With childhood friend Kilik.
    • Subverted when it was revealed that Sora never truly gave a damn about Kilik even during their final battle, which killed Kilik in the process.
  • Genetic Engineering: First generation Gravity Child.
  • Half-Identical Twins: With Nike, which you couldn't possibly tell by looking at them.
  • Handicapped Badass
  • Manipulative Bastard: Sora Takeuchi. Initially, he's portrayed as a mentor/brother figure to Ikki and helped train him to use the Wind Regalia. In reality, he was just using poor Ikki so that he could reclaim the Wind Regalia.
    • Sora (again) takes this to a whole new level after executing his grand-master plan to obtain the Sky Regalia. Not only did his cowardly and villainous personality turn out to be false (allowing Kilik to drop his guard and be led into thinking that Sora was a shallow and self-centered person), his original defeat against Kilik during the collapse of the Old Sleeping Forest was planned from the beginning as he only needed to collect the missing codes of the remaining Regalias that was required to unlock the full potential of the Sky Regalia. He succeeds. Now he's the Sky King, thereby succeeding in fulfilling his own made-up prophecy. Afterwards he gives a speech telling the whole world he did all of this to solve all world issues and 'save' all of the 'good defects' (aka humans), in which he claims to be 99% of the world's population (with the 1% being hinted at as the Gravity Children, most notably Kilik). How does the vast majority of the world react to this? They applaud him for his actions.
      • The irony to this is that Ikki isn't a Gravity Child and manages to overcome him with pure wit and skill which wins over the crowd to his side as he just a mere human after all.
  • Meaningful Name: He actually shares his name with his twin, the only difference is that the kanji for Sora's first name would translate to "Sky", while Nike's would be "Space".
  • Mitsuru Miyamoto
  • Moral Event Horizon: Sora was already very much an ass, but threatening to physically harm his ex-girlfriend Rika who is pregnant with his own child, and then getting her Brainwashed and Crazy so Kilik and his group won't bring themselves to harm her since she's preggers? Complete Monster.
    • And when Ikki manages to gain the advantage in their fight and breaks his artifical legs. He decides to turn Rika into a living bomb just to kill Ikki. Yeah I'd say he's pretty messed up.
  • Take Over The Sky
  • [TakingYouWithMe: Once his Reglia is broken he feels he has nothing to lose and tries to blow up the tower with everyone in it.]
  • Sore Loser: Dude really can't take loss well.

Takeuchi Nike

Nike is an antagonist of the series and is Takeuchi Sora's twin brother. Appears to be mentally unstable, and has a deep hatred for the one who took everything away from his brother, the Gem King, Kilik. Despite being Sora's twin, the two aren't very similar, appearance-wise, as Nike has a taller and bulkier, muscular body and a different hairstyle.

He is the current Gem King of the Jade Road. It fuses the Wing Road with the Gaia Road, reflecting his philosophy of total control over both Land and Sky. Combined with his great physical strength, his Road makes him a very formidable opponent.

Nue

Nue is the Thunder King of the Rising Road and head of the team Black Crow, which is made up of twenty Gravity Children. He is intelligent and caring, but overall fairly serious.

Orca

Gravity Child affiliated with Genesis. Playful yet deadly, he is a bishonen with light-colored hair and tanned skin. He is a King-level rider specializing in the aquatic environment.

Tool Toul To

Tool Toul To is a team originally created to assist the Kings with their Regalias. They are a completely neutral group and will assist any King regardless of which side they are on. Each King is assigned a tuner who becomes familiar with the King and acts as their personal tuner.

Sumeragi Kururu

Kururu Sumeragi is the leader of the current team Tool Toul To and Pledge Queen. She has very messy hair, and uses pins in attempt to keep it kempt. She always carries tools around in her clothing. She is Ikki's Tuner and wants to get to know him better personally and in order to tune him better.

Kururu: How many seconds until impact?!
Ikki: Uh... Three seconds... I'd guess?

Kururu: Three seconds?! (thinking during two-page spread of her spilling tools from her backpack) In that case... I've got more than enough time!

(And Kururu very quickly rebuilds Ikki's skates with the prototype Wind Regalia.)

Canon

Canon is Ringo's Tuner and Kururu Sumeragi's cousin. He has an obsession for Ringo and seems to harbor romantic intentions. He presses on in his disregard for Tool Toul To's neutrality by actively battling against Kogarasumaru, though he at least seems to respect their leader.

He rides on the Ring Road and is the only Ring Road rider revealed to have offensive capabilities.

Hako Isawa

A tuner trying to prove her worth to the team. She's extremely jealous of Kururu's skill, so much so that when Kururu finishes her work on the Sky Regaila prototype, she switches out Kururu's part with her own (which is why they broke down after two uses). She eventually becomes so desperate to become Ikki's tuner that she tries to seduce him into it but is rejected. She later in the series become Sora's tuner after he kidnaps her but eventually rejoins the group after coming to terms with herself.

Ine Makigami

Ine is the first Pledge Queen of Tool Toul To and of the original Sleeping Forest. She is also knowledgeable in medicine and runs her own hospital. Though none of the Gravity Children require tuners, Spitfire still has a close relationship with her before his death. She passes down her title of Pledge Queen to Kururu Sumeragi.

Others

Noyamano Rika

The eldest of the Noyamano sisters. She acts like a typical older sister and takes care of the family. To support her sisters and Ikki, she works as Destler Bartlett, a female pro-wrestler.

Rika, being the former Thorn Queen of the original Sleeping Forest, was known to be a very skilled and merciless rider. In her battle with Ikki she claims that if she were on Air Trecks Ikki would be laying in a pool of his own blood.

Kaito Wanijima

Known as the "Shinjuku Crocodile", he is Agito/Akito/Lind Wanijima's older brother or rather, their biological father, and the leader of the Windstorm G-Men, a special S.W.A.T. team that was created specifically for hunting down and arresting Storm Rider teams.
