Malta was represented by Morena in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Vodka".

Before Eurovision

Malta Song for Europe 2008

The contest received 225 songs (3 of which were disqualified) which would have been whittled down to just 35, but due to a tie between a number of songs, the second round consisted of 36 songs. Seventeen entries were decided for the semi-final on the 24 January 2008, where all songs were performed and eight progressed on to the final on 26 January 2008.

The nine-member international jury which decided on these 36 songs were:

Semi-final

The semi-final was held at the Malta Fairs & Convention Centre in Ta' Qali on 24 January 2008, hosted by John Demanuele, Ruth Sammut Casingena and Chiara. The finalists were chosen by an international jury.[1][2]

Final

The final was held at the Malta Fairs & Convention Centre in Ta' Qali on 26 January 2008, hosted by John Demanuele, Ruth Sammut Casingena and Chiara. The winner was chosen by televoting (80%) and an "expert" jury (20%).[3]

The song received 38 points and placed 14th in the semifinal and so Malta failed to qualify for the final for the second time.
