Media

Light novels

The series written by Jougi Shiraishi originally debuted as an e-book on Amazon's Kindle service in 2014, but it had weak sales in the beginning. Shiraishi then began to advertise the series on 2channel's VIP bulletin board and successfully attracted a following base of fans. With this, publisher SB Creative began printing the novel in light novel format through its GA Novel imprint with illustrations by Azure in April 2016.

Manga

A manga adaptation by Itsuki Nanao began on November 2018 in the smartphone app and website Manga UP! from the publisher Square Enix, which published the first volume of the series in April 2019.

Anime

An anime television series adaptation was announced during a livestream for the "GA Fes 2019" event on October 19, 2019. The series is animated by C2C and directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka, with Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handling series composition, and Takeshi Oda adapting Azure's character designs.[1] The opening theme song "Literature", will be performed by Reina Ueda, while the ending theme song, "Haiiro no Saga" (Gray Saga), will be performed by ChouCho.[2][3] The series will premiere in October 2020.[2]

Reception

The light novel series ranked ninth in 2018 in Takarajimasha's annual light novel guide book Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!, in the tankōbon category.[4] It ranked sixth in 2019[5] and sixth again in 2020.[6]
