The boat was built by Investigator Yachts in Australia.[1]

The Sonata 8 design was developed into the Sonata 26 in 1980 and produced by the same manufacturer. The two boats share the same specifications.[1]

Design

The Sonata 8 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a fractional sloop rig, a transom-hung rudder and a lifting or optionally fixed fin keel. It displaces 2,822 lb (1,280 kg) and carries 500 lb (227 kg) of ballast.[1]

The boat has a draft of 5.09 ft (1.55 m) with the keel down and 0.69 ft (0.21 m) with the keel retracted. The fixed keel version has a draft of 5.2 ft (1.6 m).[1]

Operational history

After its introduction in 1979 the design was raced in Australia as a one-design class.[1]

gollark: ↑
gollark: You're wrong and you still don't understand what lossy compression means.
gollark: This seems unlikely also, since rerecording it discards information.
gollark: If your WAV file is the original one from whoever made the song, it might sound better. If your WAV file is just generated from the MP3, it will be identical to playing back the MP3 normally.
gollark: Converting to JPEG has dropped information, information which the design of JPEG treats as relatively unimportant to human perception, and if you convert back to lossless you'll just store the same information as the JPEG retains less efficiently.
