Myself World Tour (album)

Myself World Tour (Chinese: Myself世界巡迴演唱會 台北安可場) is the sixth live album by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai. It was released on 19 October 2013, by Warner Music Taiwan.[1] Tsai embarked on the Myself World Tour for promotion of her eleventh studio album Myself (2010).[2] The album was recorded at Taipei Arena during the Taipei dates of the tour on December 22–23, 2012.[3] Tsai's pervious record labels Universal, Sony, and Capitol authorized an array of copyrighted tracks being included on the album, and it was the most completed live album of her career to this date.[4]

The album peaked at number one on the weekly video album charts of Chia Chia, Eslite, Five Music, G-Music, Kuang Nan, and Pok'elai,[5] and it topped the year-end chart of Five Music and reached number three on the chart of Kuang Nan.[6][7]

Background and development

On August 13, 2010, Tsai release her eleventh studio album Myself, the album has sold more than 65,000 copies in Taiwan, and it became the fourth best-selling album and the best-selling album by a female artist of the year in the region.[8] In the same month, Tsai indicated that she will embark a new concert tour around Christmas of the year.[9] On October 29, 2010, Tsai released the deluxe version of Myself, which contained additional six songs in remixed form, and she indicated that she would start to prepare for the tour that was scheduled to begin around the end of the year.[10] On November 15, 2010, Tsai held a press conference for her third tour Myself World Tour, and she announced that the tour would embark on December 24, 2010, at Taipei Arena in Taipei, Taiwan and has invited the vogue dancer Benny Ninja as a special guest of the tour.[11]

On July 12, 2011, Tsai released a book titled Living Slim, and it has sold more than 120,000 copies in Taiwan.[12] On December 31, 2011, Tsai appeared on the 2011–2012 New Year's Concert held by Hunan Television, and her performance delivered highest ratings of the evening in China.[13] On September 14, 2012, Tsai released her twelfth studio album Muse, and it houses tracks influenced by the elements of art, poetry, and dance.[14] The album has sold more than 100,000 copies in Taiwan, and it became the third best-selling album and the best-selling album by a female artist of 2012 in the region.[15][16] It received four Golden Melody Award nominations, and it finally won for a Golden Melody Award for Song of the Year for "The Great Artist".[17] Myself World Tour concluded on April 13, 2013, at Kaohsiung Arena in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.[18] Comprising 35 shows, the tour grossed NT$1.5 billion and played in front of 600,000 people from 31 cities in Asia, Europe, and Oceania.[19]

Release and promotion

On October 18, 2013, Tsai held the premiere of the concert film on the ship of Great River Queen in New Taipei, Taiwan.

In September 2013, Tsai announced the live album for Myself World Tour would be available for pre-order on October 2 and officially released on October 19, she further indicated her pervious record labels including Universal, Sony, and Capitol had authorized an array of copyrighted tracks being included on the album, and it became the most completed live album of her career to this date.[20] On October 2, 2013, Tsai held a press conference for the album in Taipei, Taiwan, and she announced she would hold signing sessions for the album in Taichung on October 19, Kaohsiung and Tainan on October 20, and Taipei on October 27.[21] On October 18, 2013, Tsai held the premiere of the concert film on the ship of Great River Queen in New Taipei, Taiwan.[22] On October 19, 2013, the album was officially released, and it has two versions, the standard version and the deluxe limited version.[23] The former contains 39 tracks and the music video of "Journey", and the latter contains additional contents including a behind-the-scenes footage, a video of her solo pole dance performance, and a clip of Tsai's doubles pole dance performance with a partner during the Kaohsiung date of the tour.[24] On October 27, 2013, Warner Music Taiwan announced the album reached number one on the chart of Chia Chia, Eslite, Five Music, G-Music, and Pok'elai in the first week of release.[25] On November 6, 2013, Tsai held a five-day Myself World Tour Exhibition at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei, Taiwan to exhibit 16 costumes and some stage props of the tour.[26]

In September 2013, Tsai teamed up with Swarovski and released a single titled "Journey" on September 11 for its Music Journey campaign.[27] Recorded in July 2013 in London, United Kingdom, the song was written by Matthew Yen, Jaakko Salovaara, Keuntae Park, and Nalle Ahlstedt and produced by Michael Lin.[28] The music video of "Journey" was released on September 17, 2013, and it was directed by Bill Chia, who has collaborated with Tsai on the music video of "Fantasy" from Muse (2012).[29] The music video featured Swarovski jewelry, nine costumes, and a DMC DeLorean.[30] Francis Belin, who was in charge of Swarovski's Consumer Goods Business for Greater China, said: "Our brand hopes to convey the latest fashion trend and merchandise news to consumers through music and Jolin Tsai's influence on fashion and popular music."[31] Nathalie Colin, the creative director of Swarovski, also said: "Jolin Tsai's ever-changing image coincides with the creativity of Swarovski jewelry, this season's large necklaces, bracelets, and brooches perfectly showcase through Jolin Tsai's music video."[31] In January 2014, the single reached number 15 on the Hit FM Top 100 Singles of the Year.[32]

Accolades

On March 27, 2014, Tsai won a QQ Music Award for Best Concert Film Award.[33]
