Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai (Chinese: 蔡依林) has released fourteen studio albums, seven live albums, seven greatest hits albums, four remix albums, and one cover album. In 1999, Tsai signed a recording deal with Universal Music Taiwan.[1] The first release under the label was her debut album, 1019 (1999).[2] It sold more than 400,000 copies in Taiwan alone.[2] She followed the album with the sophomore release, Don't Stop (2000).[3] The album has sold more than 450,000 copies in Taiwan alone, becoming her best-selling album in Taiwan of her career to this date.[4] Show Your Love was a released as her third studio album in 2000 and sold over 260,000 copies in Taiwan alone.[5] Tsai's fourth studio album, Lucky Number (2001), sold more than 150,000 copies in Taiwan alone,[1] Her remaining contract with Universal ended with two compilation albums: Together (2001)[6] and Dance Collection (2002).[7]

In 2002, Tsai signed a recording deal with Sony Music Taiwan.[8] Her next release under Sony, Magic (2003), was heralded as her comeback album. The album sold more than 1.5 million copies in Asia,[9] with more than 360,000 copies sold in Taiwan alone,[10] and it became the best-selling album by a female artist of the year in Taiwan.[10] Her sixth studio album, Castle, was released in 2004.[11] The album has sold over 2 million copies in Asia,[9] with 300,000 copies sold in Taiwan alone,[12] and became best-selling album by a female artist of the year in Taiwan.[12] She also released her second remix compilation, J9, in the same year.[13] Tsai's seventh studio album, J-Game (2005), sold more than 2 million copies in Asia,[9] with 260,000 copies sold in Taiwan alone,[14] and became the best-selling album by a female artist of the year in Taiwan.[14] Her remaining contract with Sony ended with her third greatest hits album, J-Top (2006).[15]

In 2006, Tsai signed a recording deal with Capitol Music Taiwan.[16] The first release from this deal was her eighth studio album, Dancing Diva (2006), which sold more than 2.5 million copies in Asia,[17] with 260,000 copies sold in Taiwan alone,[18] and it became the best-selling album of the year in Taiwan.[18] She also released a remix compilation, Dancing Forever, in the same year.[19] In 2007, Tsai released her ninth studio album, Agent J, which sold more than 2.5 million copies in Asia,[9] with 200,000 copies sold in Taiwan alone,[20] and it became the best-selling album of the year in Taiwan.[20] In 2008, Gold Typhoon acquired the Taiwanese operation of Capitol, and Tsai released a cover album, Love Exercise, which sold over 30,000 copies in Taiwan alone,[21] and it became the best-selling Western-language album of the year in Taiwan.[21] Her remaining contract with Gold Typhoon ended with a compilation, Jeneration (2009).[22]

In 2008, Tsai signed a recording deal with Warner Music Taiwan.[23] Her first release under Warner was her tenth studio album, Butterfly (2009), which sold more than 1 million copies in Asia,[24] with 190,000 copies sold in Taiwan alone,[25] becoming the best-selling album of the year in Taiwan.[25] In the same year, she founded Eternal Music, which became her main record company, with Warner as distributors of her music.[26] Tsai's eleventh studio album, Myself (2010), sold more than 65,000 copies in Taiwan alone,[27] and became the best-selling album by a female artist of the year in Taiwan,[27] while becoming her lowest-selling studio album to this date.[27] The first release under Eternal was the studio album, Muse (2012), which sold more than 100,000 copies in Taiwan alone,[28] and became the best-selling album by a female artist of the year in Taiwan.[28] In 2014, she released her thirteenth studio album, Play, which sold over 85,000 copies in Taiwan,[29] and became the best-selling album by a female artist of the year in Taiwan.[29]

In 2018, Tsai signed a recording contract with Sony Music Taiwan. Her next release under the label was her fourteenth studio album, Ugly Beauty.[30]

Tsai has sold more than 25 million copies in Asia and is recognized as one of the Asia's top-selling female recording artists of the 21st century.[31] Since Magic (2003), each of her studio albums at least became the best-selling album by a female artist of the year in Taiwan,[32] and each of the three albums—Dancing Diva (2006), Agent J (2007), and Butterfly (2009)—even became the best-selling album of the year in Taiwan.[32]
