Jiménez (canton)
Jiménez is the fourth canton in the province of Cartago in Costa Rica.[1] The canton covers an area of 286.43 square kilometres (110.59 sq mi),[2] and has a population of 15,928 (estimate as of 2013).[3]

The capital city of the canton is Juan Viñas. Its main economic activity is the sugar cane plantations operated by the Ingenio Juan Viñas, which factory produces more than 20,000 tons of sugar annually.[4]
Geography
The Turrialba River forms the northern boundary of the canton of Jiménez, with the Reventazón River and Atirro River establishing the eastern border and the Pejibaye River delineating a major portion of the canton's border on the west.

History
The canton was established by a decree of August 19, 1903.
