History

Global TV was originally established on 22 March 1999 by joint-venture of formerly government-backed Islamic association ICMI and The International Islamic Forum for Science, Technology and Human Resource (IIFTIHAR) under the company name PT Global Investasi Bermutu.[1] The station was intended for Islamic dawah, as well as education, technology and human development programming - it would become the first Islamic-oriented of its kind in Indonesia (the first Islamic-oriented television station later hold by Bandung-based local station MQTV in 2006). Global TV obtained a broadcast license on 25 October 1999 on Habibie administration. However, before the station launched Bimantara Citra (predecessor of MNC) was acquired Global TV ownership shares in 2001 and changed the company's name to PT Global Informasi Bermutu (replacing SCTV as RCTI's sister channel).

Global TV began airing on 1 April 2002, originally only broadcasting MTV Indonesia programs such as MTV Most Wanted, MTV Land, and MTV Ampuh, Global TV broadcasts 15 hours transmission programs from 09:00 to 00:00 WIB on same day, On 1 May 2002, the block was expanded broadcasts into 17 hours transmission programs from 07:00 to 00:00 WIB. On 1 June 2002, Global TV started and commenced 24-hours around the clock transmission broadcasts. After three years as an MTV Indonesia broadcaster, on 15 January 2005, Global TV began producing its own television programs for its 12-hour broadcast. On the same day, it expanded its coverage area to 18 cities in Indonesia.

On 11 October 2017, Global TV was re-branded as GTV for its 15th anniversary.

Since November 2017 after the re-branding, GTV no longer broadcasts live sporting events, these were replaced with revived reality and game shows. GTV however still hosts a sport news program, called 100% Sports. In 2019, GTV has shown live coverage of E-Sport tournaments.[2]

gollark: Give me the server.
gollark: I should clearly be put in charge of all administration and also not have to pay anything.
gollark: Basically.
gollark: Why jam it when you could spoof someone or something? That's much more fun.
