Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002

Cyprus was represented by the group One with the song "Gimme". The group was selected internally, so a Cypriot National Final was not held. At the Eurovision Song Contest, the group had a solid result and they qualified Cyprus for the Eurovision Song Contest 2003.

One consists of Constantinos Christoforou, Demetres Coutsavlakis, Philippos Constantinos, Argyris Nastopoulos and Panos Tserpes. Constantinos Christoforou previously represented Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996.

Before Eurovision

Internal selection

CyBC employed composer and songwriter Giorgos Theophanous to compose the Cypriot entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002. Theophanous, in turn, chose the group One to perform the song "Gimme".

At Eurovision

On the night of the final Cyprus performed 1st in the running order, preceding the United Kingdom. At the close of the voting "Gimme" had received 85 points from 14 countries (the highest being 12 from Greece and Malta), placing Cyprus 6th of the 24 entries. The 12 points from Cyprus were awarded to Greece.
