Annavaram railway station

Annavaram railway station (station code:ANV[2]), is an Indian railway station in Annavaram, a village in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. It lies on the Vijayawada-Chennai section and is administered under Vijayawada railway division of South Coast Railway zone. Forty-seven trains halt in this station every day. It is the 345th-busiest station in the country.[3]

History

Between 1893 and 1896, 1,288 km (800 mi) of the East Coast State Railway, between Vijayawada and Cuttack was opened for traffic.[4] The southern part of the East Coast State Railway (from Waltair to Vijayawada) was taken over by Madras Railway in 1901.[5]

Classification

In terms of earnings and outward passengers handled, Annavaram is categorized as a Non-Subruban Grade-4 (NSG-4) railway station.[6] Based on the re–categorization of Indian Railway stations for the period of 2017–18 and 2022–23, an NSG–4 category station earns between ₹10₹20 crore and handles 2–5 million passengers.[7]

Station amenities

It is one of the 38 stations in the division to be equipped with Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM's).[8]
