- January 22: Minnie Mouse receives a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[1]
March
- March 4: 90th Academy Awards:
- Dear Basketball by Glen Keane wins the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.[2]
- Coco by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar wins the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Academy Award for Best Original Song.[3]
- March 25: The couch gag of The Simpsons episode 3 Scenes Plus a Tag from a Marriage is animated by Bill Plympton. This is the sixth time he receives this honour.[4]
- March 29: John Kricfalusi is accused by animators Robyn Byrd and Katie Rice of having sexually harassed and groomed them when they were underage.[5]
April
- April 27: The Simpsons beat the record of TV series Gunsmoke as the longest-running U.S. (prime time) TV series.[6]
May
- May 11: John Kricfalusi issues a personal explanation and apology about the allegations by animators Robin Byrd and Katie Rice, though he denies some of the claims.[7]
- May 13: In The Simpsons episode Throw Grampa from the Dane the family travels to Denmark.[8]
June
- June 11: Nina Paley's animated feature film, Seder-Masochism, premiers, which analyses The Book of Exodus and the evolution of Judaism as a patriarchal religion.[9]

- August 17: Matt Groening's new animated TV series, Disenchantment airs on Netflix.[10][11]

- October 26: Adi Shankar states in an interview with IndieWire that the character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon will leave The Simpsons following controversy that he is a negative and racially offensive stereotype.[12]
- October 29: Simpsons executive producer Al Jean states that "Adi Shankar does not speak for our show".[13]

- December 12: Cinderella and Hair Piece: A Film for Nappyheaded People are added to the National Film Registry.[14][15]
