• April 2: 46th Academy Awards: Frank Film by Frank Mouris wins the Academy Award for Best Animated Short. [3]

• 9-24 May: 1974 Cannes Film Festival:
  • Peter Foldes' Hunger wins the Special Jury Prize. [4]
  • The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat becomes the first animated film to be entered at the Cannes Film Festival, but wins no awards. [5] The film is later officially released on 26 June, but flops. Only later will it gain a cult following. [6]
