Caroline Wozniacki won the title, snapping a seven-match losing streak to Venus Williams, beating her in the final in straight sets. Williams became the oldest player to reach the final of the event.[1][2]

The top seven seeds all had the chance to attain the year-end WTA no. 1 singles ranking. Newly crowned World No. 1 Simona Halep secured the position after Karolína Plíšková lost in the semifinals.

Caroline Garcia, Jeļena Ostapenko and Elina Svitolina made their debuts in the event.
