1931 Johnson City Teachers football team
The 1931 State Teachers College, Johnson City Teachers football team was an American football team that represented East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in the 1931 NCAA football season. It was the twelfth season of East Tennessee State (Then known as State Teachers College, Johnson City) football. They were led by second-year head coach J.S. Batey (Jacokson Smith Batey Jr.), who was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State Normal School (B.S.) and University of Tennessee (M.S.). He would coach football and basketball for two years and baseball for six years. He taught physical education and agriculture from 1930 to 1935 at STCJC. It would be Batey's final year of coaching football at the school. Even though the fortunes for the 1931 team would be better than the previous year, they would only finish with a 1-3-2 record.[1]
