Henri Coiffier de Ruzé, marquis de Cinq-Mars, personal favourite of the king of France, and Gaston, Duke of Orléans are plotting against Cardinal Richelieu, prime minister of France.[1][2]
- 9 September: Catalan Revolt: Perpignan conquered after a siege that took ten months.[3]

- 12 August: Cinq-Mars is executed for High treason after having failed convincing Louis XIII of getting rid of Richelieu.[4]
- 4 December: Cardinal Richelieu dies.[5]
