Skulltrogs
Skulltrogs were a savage, primitive variety of trogs that hunted in packs in the Deepwoods.[1]
Characteristics
Physical
Skulltrogs were huge, fierce, and half-formed creatures. They had large, blunt, mottled faces with deep-set red eyes. Their mouths were filled with long wolf-like teeth. Also, skulltrogs were muscular and smelled of rancid fat.[1]
Behavioral
Skulltrogs hunted together in packs, with one trog leading, and they communicated with each other only with grunts of ‘Urghh’ or ‘Aargh’ of varying volume. Each trog wore strings of skulls around its neck and a giant quiver of flint-tipped spears on its back. The trogs hunted by throwing spears at their prey, but sometimes they used their spears to swipe at close range instead.[1] Skulltrogs would devour their prey while it was still warm[2].
Role in the Edge Chronicles
In the Rook Trilogy
In The Last of the Sky Pirates, Rook, Magda, Hekkle, and Stob were attacked by a pack of skulltrogs. Rook failed to escape on his prowlgrin with the others and was about to be killed, but then a swarm of snickets attacked and devoured the entire pack.[1]
In The Blooding of Rufus Filatine
In The Blooding of Rufus Filatine, Tam Whytewinter earned his boards in the Skirmish at Wooded Crag fighting against skulltrogs that had caught a group of low-belly goblins and were feasting upon them and tearing them apart for fun.[3]
