Gardens of Light
The Gardens of Light were a spindlebug colony located deep beneath the Ironwood Glade in the Free Glades.[1]
History
The Gardens of Light were already settled before Maris Verginix founded the Free Glades above them, and Tweezel convinced the spindlebugs of the colony to offer shelter for him, Maris, and the children of their band until the first buildings of New Undertown were constructed[2]. Once the Free Glades were settled, the Gardens of Light became the place where librarian knight apprentices learned to make varnish[1], and where people who were the subjects of Reckonings were held until the day of their Reckoning[2].
Characteristics
Inhabitants
Spindlebugs lived in the Gardens of Light, and so did slime-moles, milchgrubs, crystal spiders, and firemoths. There was also glowing fungus in the colony, which provided constant lighting.[2]
Layout
The caverns of the Gardens of Light were so enormous that a person could spend several weeks there and still see only a fraction of them. There was only one path between the colony and the surface that was large enough for the sentient inhabitants of the colony to use, and that was always guarded, but there was also a vertical tube from the surface that gyle goblins could drop food down.[2]
