Deku Toad (5e Creature)
Deku Toad
Huge monstrosity, unaligned Armor Class 18 (natural armor)
Saving Throws Con +9, Wis +2 Amphibious. The deku toad can breathe air and water. Iron Stomach. The toad is immune to ingested poisons. Standing Leap. The toad's long jump and high jump can be up to 60 feet, with or without a running start. Weak Point. The toad's weak point is its tongue, which is exposed when it attempts a bite attack, and can be targeted by any creature it is grappling. Any attack roll made as a called shot, such as against this weak point, is normally made with disadvantage. An attack that hits this weak point inflicts double damage. ACTIONSBite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage plus 5 (1d10) acid damage. If the target is a Large or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 17). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the toad can't bite another target. Spit Slime. Ranged Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (4d6) acid damage. Body Slam. The deku toad cannot use this action if it was used last turn, nor can it use this action and otherwise move on the same turn. The deku toad performs a standing leap up to 60 feet. Any creature Huge or smaller that is occupying the space into which the deku toad lands must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw in an attempt to move out of the way. On a failed save, the target takes 21 (6d6) bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone in its space. On a success, the target moves to the nearest space outside of where the deku toad lands and takes no damage nor falls prone; but its movement next turn is reduced by the distance it moved out of the way Spawn Swarm (Recharge 5-6). The deku toad shakes a toado swarm off its back, which appears in an adjacent unoccupied space and moves on the deku toad's initiative, starting with this turn. The swarm dies after 1 minute.

The deku toad is the final stage in the life cycle preceeded by toadpolis and toadoes. Its name is a misnomer, as although it shares similar woodland habitats to deku scrubs and the Great Deku Tree, it otherwise has no relation to either. The toad appears as a gigantic, bulbous frog with short limbs and an overwhelmingly fat body. Its back is normally adorned with toado eggs, which it routinely sheds to give birth to dozens of them at once—although if the eggs are not previously inseminated, the toadoes will die shortly after this birth. The deku toad stares upon the world with narrow, dimly glowing orange eyes and even dimmer intelligence. The deku toad will feast on practically anything in its environment—insects, fish, plants, people, and practically anything that can fit in its massive mouth. When faced with crafty prey or predators, the toad primarily attacks by leaping a huge distance and crushing its foe with a devastating body slam. It is found in forests and jungles. Like most amphibious creatures, it favors damp environments near water. |
