Wild ARMs 5/Characters
Playable Characters
Dean Stark
A young boy living in a remote village. Unlike the other youths, he does not have an ARM. He dreams of leaving his hometown and becoming a famous Golem Hunter, like his hero Nightburn. Together with Rebecca, he witnesses an arm of a giant golem fall from the sky, with a young woman protected in its fist, and sets off to realise his dream and solve the mystery of this young woman. His unique ability is Double Critical, which doubles the damage done when he scores a Critical Hit.

- Apologetic Attacker
- Defrosting Ice Queen: Avril, who was once the tyrannical leader of the highly advanced Filgaia of 12,000 years ago, and literally nicknamed the Ice Queen. After a botched science project devastates the land, half of the population leaves the planet on the space ship Locus Solus, and would eventually go on to become the Veruni due to the ship changing their body structures. Avril, feeling bad about this, puts herself into cryosleep to await the return of those people, and winds up with amnesia as a result. She is located by Volsung and his cronies, but the golem Asgard helps her escape, and jettisons his arm with her in it to hide her. And as a result of the time loop, repeat God knows how many times.

Greg Russellberg
A self-proclaimed "Golem Crusher" who goes around destroying golems. He is seeking revenge on a certain Veruni, and he believes that by destroying golems he will eventually lure him out. This brings him into conflict with Dean, who loves golems and is appalled that anyone would destroy them. His unique ability is Shoot And Guard, which gives him a small chance to automatically enter the defensive Guard stance after attacking.
Chuck Preston
A Golem Hunter apprentice with self-confidence issues. He is falsely accused of stealing an artifact and nearly executed by the local Veruni, but Dean and party intervene just in time. His unique ability is Damage Up, which increases the amount of damage his attacks do as his HP decreases.
- Can't Catch Up: Joins the party several levels lower than everyone else and so will always be weaker than the rest of the party. (unless give him a handful of Level apples but why bother?)
- Can be avoided if you're making use of the Black Market, as you spend character levels there.
- Hair of Gold
- Improbable Weapon User: The pilebunker, which appears to be a weaponized jackhammer.
- Childhood Friend Romance: It doesn't end well with Lucielle, Chuck himself states it was his own fault not for getting her feelings before, his troubled past really didn't help, either.
Carol Anderson
An orphan who is looked after by a mysterious and half-mad professor. She is extremely intelligent but very shy and clumsy, especially around boys. She was separated from the professor and is currently looking for him. Her unique ability is Shoot Anywhere, which allows her to target any Hex in battle.
- Backpack Cannon
- Child Mage: Her growth in MAG status makes her the most efficient magic damage dealer or healer.
- Cute Clumsy Girl: Rebecca and Avril sees her mostly like this until she shows her vast historical knowledge.
- Does Not Like Men
- Dojikko
- Little Miss Badass
- Self-Made Orphan: Not in the way you expect: she ran from her home after her parents neglect her because of a Veruni taking away her family crops.
- Small Girl, Big Gun: She's a tiny little thing, but her rocket launcher is huge.
- Squishy Wizard: Dies incredibly fast even with Sword Medium.
- Token Mini-Moe
Asgard
A Golem that serves as a transportation device and ally in battle. He is not player controlled in battle, but his actions can be programmed from the menu.
- Humongous Mecha
- Programming Game: Setting up his battle actions.
Other Characters
Nightburn
Dean's hero, a legendary Golem Hunter with fanboys all over the world. Turns out, he's a Quisling for the Veruni.
Duo
A Veruni television producer who displays a great deal of interest in the party.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: To the point that his text-box title initially includes "Woman(?)".
- Truman Show Plot: He causes one.
Captain Bartholomew
The captain of the moderate vessel Mayflower.
- Barehanded Blade Block: Of a lazer sword.
- The Captain:
- Cool Old Guy: Old enough to be Dean's dad, and who Dean idolizes after Nightburn.
- Large Ham: The captain. A ham if every there was one. Any time he appears in a cutscene, he will be yelling SOMETHING. Usually while being badass. Often while ignoring gravity. Seriously, the man is awesome.
- Use Your Head: How he deals with Fereydoon.
Antagonists
Kartikeya
The most violent and unstable of the radicals. Even the other members question whether his usefulness outweighs his violent sociopathic tendencies. His past has ties to Greg's.
- Ax Crazy
- Break the Badass: The only reason he takes orders from Volsung and only him is that the man was the only person who scared the hell out of him when Kartikeya fought him one-on-one.
- The Brute
- Complete Monster
- Cutscene Power to the Max: Averted, he's just as dangerous in battle as he is in the main plot.
- Driven to Suicide: Subverted. After his defeat, Kartikeya shoots himself in the stomach so as to prevent Greg from being the one to finish him off. Greg reveals that he doesn't care about that anymore, and Kartikeya dies noticeably shocked.
- Villainous Breakdown: Gets his deserved one as soon he notices Greg overpowering him.
- Psycho for Hire
Elvis
One of the members of the radicals.
- Absent-Minded Professor
- Badass Mustache
- Evil Genius
- Genius Bruiser: He's as strong as he is smart.
- Large Ham: Let's just say he's not shy about his love for his adopted daughter.
- Lightning Bruiser: Looking at Elvis' size, you might think that he's a Mighty Glacier. Then you look at his stats when he's fighting your team in the TF Tower and you realize he's faster than the resident ninja Fereydoon
Fereydoon
One of the members of the radicals. He is Volsung's right-hand man and most reliable soldier, carry orders without fail
- BFS
- The Dragon
- Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: He won't start a fight in Diana's house.
- Ludicrous Precision: His introductory scene shows him setting the number of golems destroyed and the number of golems renaming...
- Star-Crossed Lovers: with Lucille. They're rather close considering he's trying to wipe out her species.
- Extreme Doormat: To a certain degree.
Persephone
One of the members of the radicals. She is portrayed as the most sympathetic of the group.
- Dark Chick
- Gainaxing
- Yuko Kaida: Who also voice the other Persephone in Japanese.
Volsung
The leader of the radical movement to preserve the Veruni race at any cost.
- Boomerang Bigot: Volsung is fanatically dedicated to making sure nobody ever "crosses the wall" between Veruni and human, despite he himself being half-Veruni and half-human and hence a living example of crossing the wall.
- Of course, in his defense, being that made him the target of Fantastic Racism that eventually led him to snap and become possessed by "the hatred."
- Brainwashed and Crazy
- Big Bad
- Half-Human Hybrid
- Throwing Your Sword Always Works: One of his attacks. In fact, it counts towards monster encyclopedia completion if you hit it after he throws it into the ground.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: He wants to end racism between the humans and Veruni. Violently. Subverted; he's actually not extremist at all, just Brainwashed and Crazy. Specifically, the thing possessing him is the embodiment of the hatred of every previous person who tried and failed to get humans and Veruni to get along. Said apparition doesn't appear until just before fighting it. Volsung was actually one such person before the Hatred got a hold of him.
- The Hatred is also largely responsible for Avril being stuck in a time loop, as every time it is defeated, it attempts to fuse with TF System: Tower O and blow up Filgaia. This always forces Avril to neutralize it by swapping her present mind with her past self's mind. Ice Queen Avril then lives on in the present (with Dean vowing to befriend her), while the Avril you know goes back to her time, and eventually relives the game's events. Repeat indefinitely.
