Street Fighter (film)/YMMV
- Awesome Ego: M. Bison.
- Cliché Storm: A few of the most prominent action movie cliches show up.
- Ensemble Darkhorse: Even people who hate the movie love Zangief.
- Funny Aneurysm Moment:
- The final Guile vs. Bison battle takes on a darker tone when you realize that Van Damme is beating up a terminal cancer patient.
- The Sequel Hook showing that Bison lives. But Raul Julia did not.
- Ham and Cheese: Raul Julia's portrayal of Bison in the first movie:
"For I beheld Satan as he FELL FROM HEAVEN! LIKE LIGHTNING!!!"
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Guile says that he's gonna "kick that son-of-a-bitch Bison's ass so hard that the next Bison wannabe is gonna feel it." Cue the next adaptation of the franchise...
- When you consider Raul Julia's last quote: "For I beheld Satan, as he fell from heaven. Like lightning!" Street Fighter X Tekken is being made and that description fits Kazuya!
- Magnificent Bastard: Julia's portrayal of M. Bison.
- Retroactive Recognition: Leatherface plays Zangief.
- Rooting for the Empire: On the one hand, you have the magnificently absurd and entertaining performance by Raul Julia, a great actor who tragically died in his prime shortly after completing the film. On the other, a corny and bland one by Jean-Claude Van Damme as the boring, traditional hero.
- So Bad It's Good
- Spiritual Licensee: Heroic army lead by a handsome blond American takes on a crazy megalomaniac who wants to take over the world and his shiny-domed weapons supplier. Are we sure this wasn't originally a script for an unmade G.I. Joe film?
- Took the Bad Film Seriously: Watch the "Making Of" featurette on the DVD. The actors seem well aware of the ridiculousness of the movie they are making. However, director Stephen de Souza seems to be under the impression that he's making the next Die Hard / Lethal Weapon.
- Video Game Movies Suck
- What the Hell, Casting Agency?:
- Exactly whose idea was it to cast a 52-year-old classically-trained theater actor with absolutely zero martial arts background in an action movie based on a video game? Raul Julia's grandkids', that's who. However, as it turns out, he's by far the most memorable character of the movie for his Large Ham performance, so it all turned out good.
- Far worse has got to be Jean-Claude Van Damme, with his unshakable Belgian accent, as a character so American he's got the American flag tattooed on both shoulders.
