Pretty Cure

Smile Precure
Miyuki Hoshizora (Cure Happy)
Voiced by: Misato Fukuen
The main character and leader of the Smile Precure. Miyuki is an energetic and optimistic girl who loves fairytale books, believing that if she works hard then she too can get a "Happy Ending". Sadly, she is also a bit of a klutz and has a lot of trouble adjusting to her new powers, along with the concept that she has to actually fight.
- Animals Hate Her: During her bad luck streak on the Kyoto trip.
- Butt Monkey: She gets hit in the face by random flying objects a lot, but most physical comedy usually has her on the receiving end. Also, on the Kyoto trip, Miyuki draws a Terrible Luck fortune, whereupon everything that can go wrong to her does: bird poop on her head, getting cut off in a group picture then each picture after that is out of focus or worse, falling into a lake, getting smacked in the head by falling dolls, ice cream in the face due to some kids bumping her while trying to eat it, and it only gets worse when they transform.
- Cosmic Plaything: Episode 13. ALL OF IT.
- Iron Butt Monkey: The Aesop of the Kyoto trip is that Miyuki has to learn to be this.
- Catch Phrase: "Ultra happy!"
- Also, "Happuppu~" whenever something doesn't please her.
- Possibly her telling others not to reveal her Secret Identity.
- Also, "Happuppu~" whenever something doesn't please her.
- Cannot Keep a Secret: The girl has a poor time keeping her secret identity a secret. And blowing everyone else's to boot!
- Dojikko
- Genki Girl
- Genre Savvy: The first thing she wants to do after finding out their goal as a group is to establish a group catchphrase.
- The next being to establish a secret base.
- Girlish Pigtails: Her pigtails are normally what could be considered as drill twintails, but are done in a way that they resemble chocolate cornets (as in Konata Izumi's Trademark Favorite Food) more than anything.
- The resemblance is lampshaded in 14 by a recurring character for the episode holding a pair of chocolate cornets to her head to describe Miyuki's hair.
- Gratuitous English: Unlike Love who was constantly talking about "shiawase", Miyuki always refers to happiness with the English word "happy", which also happens to be her Cure name.
- The Hero
- Idiot Hair: Two, actually.
- Kamehame Hadouken: "PRETTY CURE HAPPY SHOWER!"
- Late for School: How she meets Candy.
- Light'Em Up
- Luminescent Blush: Miyuki breaks into the "full face red" version after being asked if she liked anyone during the Kyoto trip.
- New Transfer Student
- Otaku: Miyuki is a Fairy Tale Otaku and even confesses that the guy she likes is Peter Pan...
- Perverse Sexual Lust: For Peter Pan, as revealed in Episode 13.
- Plucky Girl: "If we do our best, happy times will surely come!" This is against a particularly terrifying wolf-man who is a Nietzsche Wannabe.
- Rose-Haired Girl
- Shy Finger-Twiddling: In episode 13 she does this when she is grilled on if she likes a certain guy.
- This Loser Is You: She's bright, happy and energetic... but also the most incompetent Pretty Cure lead inductee since Heartcatch Pretty Cure's Cure Blossom. Luckily Happy manages to figure out how to use her powers quicker than her predecessor.
- Wrong Genre Savvy: In Episode 1, to combat Wolfrun, Cure Happy hides behind a brick wall, citing Three Little Pigs and how the Big Bad Wolf was defeated by the brick house. She doesn't realise that Wolfrun can just make a Monster of the Week from the aforementioned brick wall.
- Zettai Ryouiki: her casual outfit.
Akane Hino (Cure Sunny)
Voiced by: Asami Tano
A brash and outgoing girl from Osaka. A natural Class Clown, she loves to crack jokes about other people and is quick to befriend the nervous Miyuki on her first day. She is also a keen volleyball player.
- Beehive Hairdo: Her hairstyle in Cure form is pretty close to this.
- Deadpan Snarker: Delivers the punchline in gags.
- Determinator
- Elemental Punch: Delivers a fiery punch towards the camera at the very beginning of her variation of the ending.
- Fiery Redhead
- Gratuitous English/Gratuitous French
- Hot-Blooded
- Idiot Hair: Three of them. Three.
- Kansai Regional Accent
- The Lancer: So far is Miyuki's closest friend and second in command.
- Playing with Fire
- Plucky Comic Relief: See Deadpan Snarker.
- Pungeon Master: Her bio in the official website describes her as often cracking jokes, something which is evident in the first episode, when she makes a joke about Miyuki having a younger brother named Mitaro Hoshizora [1].
- Super Strength: She is shown lifting a gigantic boulder in the opening, and lifts and swings away the just as big Akanbe in Episode 2.
- Thigh-High Boots
- Tomboy
- Zettai Ryouiki: The only Cure to get these this time out, very noticeable in group shots.
Yayoi Kise (Cure Peace)
Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto
A timid, clumsy girl who is quick to tears, yet also very loyal and diligent. She is a closet anime and gaming nerd and dreams of becoming a manga artist, but hides this out of fear of being teased.
- Ascended Fangirl: Very much so.
- The Chick
- Cry Cute: Good lord.
- Disappeared Dad: According to Episode 19. He apparently died when she was very young, as she doesn't remember much about him.
- Dojikko: The franchise's first traditional one. She even Face Plants in her version of the ending credits.
- Hilariously inverted in Episode 6, as she's the only one of the girls to successfully land on her feet when they enter the mysterious library.
- Feminine Women Can Cook
- Hair of Gold
- Princess Curls
- Rock-Paper-Scissors: Part of her catchphrase. She throws out a different move every episode.
- Shrinking Violet: Combined with Fragile Flower, since she -- at least according to Akane -- is known for her crybaby tendencies.
- Shock and Awe
- "V" Sign: Her preferred hand gesture in Cure form.
Nao Midorikawa (Cure March)
Voiced by: Marina Inoue
A headstrong and sporty Tomboy with a large family. A natural leader, her reliability and amicability have earned her a great deal of respect from the rest of the student populace.
- Anime Hair: In Cure form, she wears her hair in a Tomboyish Ponytail and Girlish Pigtails at the same time.
- Badass Normal: So far, she's the only one of the Precure who've been able to effectively slow down a monster before receiving her powers. While the other girls showed their courage and had some nice tries, Nao used her soccer skills to kick a soccer ball into an Akanbe's face in order to protect her siblings.
- Big Brother Instinct: The reason she became a Cure.
- The Big Guy
- Blow You Away
- Cool Big Sis
- Curtains Match the Window
- Establishing Character Moment: Defends Miyuki, Akane, and Yayoi from some upperclassmen who were trying to bully them out of their lunch spot in the courtyard. Eventually they stopped nagging at them once the student council president passed by. When praised for her bravery by Miyuki, Nao simply says that she just told it as it was.
- Even the Girls Want Her
- Feminine Women Can Cook: Although she isn't exactly feminine, Nao, as the first born child of her family, does what she can to help take care of her siblings in her parents' absence, which includes cooking their meals. Miyuki is fairly impressed by her.
- Green Eyes
- Massive-Numbered Siblings: She's the oldest of six siblings.
- Off-Model: As Cure March, she sports her earrings attached to the helixes of her ears instead of the earlobes (a trait shared with Sunny), but in Episode 4 she's briefly seen with the normal earring style.
- She's Got Legs: Well, she is the one who shows the most leg among the five, in particular in casual clothes.
- Super Speed
- Tomboy to Reika's Girly Girl: Magazine scans revealed that she and Reika are childhood friends.
- Tomboyish Ponytail: As her regular self.

Reika Aoki (Cure Beauty)
Voiced by: Chinami Nishimura

- Hair Decorations: Bows that hold her spiral-shaped ears in place.
- Hero for a Day: During Episode 8, Miyuki and Candy accidentally switched bodies due to Majorina's rings. Because of this, Candy (in Miyuki's body) could not transform into Cure Happy because she wasn't the actual Cure.
