Pretty Cure/WMG
Futari wa Pretty Cure is indirectly based on events in the past of Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star.
We know from Saki's English quiz that some TV show called Pretty Cure exists in the Splash Star universe. According to an early episode, there's been at least one Pretty Cure in the Splash Star universe prior to Saki and Mai. It's not unreasonable that the two might be connected.
In the distant past, Dark Fall made an attempt to capture the seven fountains. A pair of women named Nagisa and Honoka, aided by the spirits Mepple and Mipple, fought them off and won, but didn't quite manage to wipe out the bad guys. (Possibly, they never realized Goyan was the real Big Bad.) Their story was known in part by the Muggles and, through repetition, it lost details (such as Uzainas being produced from different things depending on who creates them), and some things got mixed up.
Fast forward to the modern day, where some Toei exec decides that a modernized version of the old Pretty Cure "myth" would make a great anime. Nagisa and Honoka were recast as schoolgirls, with the added "complete opposites" angle, and new names were made up for everything whose real name was forgotten. The Hikari angle was probably invented as an excuse to extend the show for another year as Max Heart. (Alternatively, perhaps instead of the Queen being restored to her original form, the real Hikari regained the Queen's power and memories in her current body, becoming the Filia we know.)
Since both the legend and the TV show are well known, Flappy assumes Saki and Mai will instantly understand how this Pretty Cure thing works. This is why he's so uninformative about it at first and irritated when they need things explained to them.
- The Fanfic version, Futari wa Hearty Pure, is confirmed to be based on such a legend, only this time with the two women being renamed Nadeshi and Hanako like in the series, in an early episode of Pretty Cure Heavy Metal.
Minazuki Karen is a half human, half Coco and Nuts's species.
One of Karen's parents (for convenience, let's say her father) is originally from the Kingdom of Palmier, one of the rare residents who can take human forms like Coco and Nuts. He was helping Coco search for the Dream Collet, but he got sidetracked when he met and fell in love with a human woman. They married and had a daughter, Karen. Mr. Minazuki wanted Karen to have a normal life, which she wouldn't if she discovered her father's true nature. So, before she was old enough to remember his mascot animal form, he and Mrs. Minazuki went permanently "on tour," intentionally overcrowding their schedule so Karen would only see them one day a year (during which he could hide his secret easily), when normally they should be able to leave enough days free to make time for trips home to their daughter.
Because of her biological connection to Palmier, Karen displays a few odd traits. Like Coco (as Kouji) did early on, she successfully calls forth a butterfly before she is able to become Cure Aqua. Later, she produces a sword from the Aqua Ribbon, a technique which no other Cures have duplicated. Karen has no physical transformation, but Masukomi-ka has noted that she undergoes a drastic personality shift, similar to Coco's, when among friends. And like Coco and Nuts in their human forms, Karen appears to draw female admirers like moths to a pitcher plant.
This is also why Nozomi (who has a natural tendency to find things from Palmier) was so certain Karen was the right choice for the Pretty Cure of Intelligence.
Sub-theories:
Karen is related to Coco
Perhaps she's his cousin or niece. Thus, her similarities to Coco in particular.
Cure Aqua is a Legacy Character
Mrs. Minazuki assisted Mr. Minazuki as the previous Cure Aqua in a situation paralleling Coco and Nozomi.
Fresh Pretty Cure will have a total of seven Pretty Cures.
The fifth Pretty Cure will be green for the center of the emblem. The sixth and seventh Pretty Cures, who have their own shamrock emblem, will be trump card Cures, colored purple and orange so they can form a full rainbow.
- Either that, or they'll be Cures Bright and Windy.
Miyuki is the fourth Labyrinth member, Northa.
The real reason she's giving Pretty Cure dance lessons is so that they will be too tired to defeat the monsters.
- This was Jossed; Northa already has her own human identity, Nayuta Kita.
- Hey, who said she's limited to one?
- Practically every Pretty Cure villain has had only one human identity, and Northa is no exception.
- "Practically every" is not 100%, it allows for some exceptions
- Well, I haven't seen any Pretty Cure villain in any series that went under more than one human identity, and also Misty wouldn't dare voice a Complete Monster, but would instead leave such voicework to Nefertari Vivi.
- While this obviously turned out to not be true, Poisony had a different human disguise every time.

Pretty Cure All Stars takes place prior to the finale of Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star.
Thus, Michiru and Kaoru weren't part of the teamup because they weren't Pretty Cures yet.
- Jossed: In the one scene she's in, Kaoru's eyes appear human, putting it after the finale. Before the twins' Disney Death, they had freaky-looking eyes to show that they were Artificial Humans.
- Or the animators screwed up and no one caught it before The Movie was finalized.
Saki of Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star and Bu-ling of Tokyo Mew Mew were Separated at Birth.
Both are blonde, and their official birthdays are both August seventh. Bu-ling is the Kid Appeal Character, but her series takes place a number of years before Splash Star and she'd be around Saki's age when it happened. As the Hwang family is poor and already has six children, it's not hard to imagine that they might have given one away. Saki doesn't look much like her family, either...
"Pretty Cure" is a title akin to "knight" or "Dame" given by the royalties of the magic worlds to extraordinary female warriors
Even if the All Star movie is not canon, it's likely that the series all DO take place in the same universe. There's probably at least a dozen magical dimensions out there which collectively hide the world's greatest energy-sources. The "Garden of Rainbows" (as it's called in the original) is the hub between them.
The title "Pretty Cure" has probably been out of use for a long time. But when the queen of light suddenly named two new cures (due to the movement of the forces of darkness), other higher authorities started naming cures again as well. We just don't get to see most of the other Kings and Queens.
Cure Black is a Kamen Rider disguised as a magical girl.
Cure Black's voice actress Yoko Honna had a recurring role in Kamen Rider Black.
- Is Atomic Betty is also a Kamen Rider? (Yoko Honna voiced Atomic Betty in Japan.)
- In Heartcatch, Tsubomi's mother's maiden name was Kaoruko Godai. Within a couple of days of that fact being revealed, this piece of fanart appeared.
Cure Black is a magical Silk Spectre II.
Same reason as above, only this time Honna was also the seiyuu for Silk Spectre II in the Japanese dub of Watchmen.
The denizens of Labyrinth are brainwashed humans.
Many years ago, when Labyrinth was first formed, there were only Moebius, Northa and Clyne. Moebius felt sad and lonely: how could he rule if he didn't even have servants? So he decided to kidnap many babies and infants in Yotsuba Town and raise them to think they were born in Labyrinth.
Among these toddlers, one of them was Moebius' favorite: a little girl named Setsuna, whom he nicknamed Eas. When her original parents found out about her absence, they were so sad that the mother died in a few months and the father ran away...
Back to the subject. One day Moebius felt that Setsuna was a little lonely, and so he picked two of the oldest infants, Hayato/Wester and Shun/Souler, to be her companions. But, as you might have seen, Setsuna will only find real friends in Love and the other Cures.
Setsuna is a human-Digimon hybrid.
Specifically, half-human, half-Silphymon.
Think about it: Cure Passion and Silphymon both have something red on them. The wings on Passion's tiara are reminiscent of the Gatomon ears on Silphymon's helmet. And when she transforms, the screen of Setsuna's Linkrun glows magenta/bright pink; Silphymon's Static Force attack is a pink and red ball of energy. And both powers were granted by large beams coming from the sky.
It's possible that Setsuna's Digimon features only began showing up when she became Cure Passion.
It's also possible that Setsuna's original father was an Aquilamon (Silphymon is officially part of Hawkmon's evolutionary line, even without Gatomon) who was living in Yotsuba Town for a while. When he and Setsuna's original mother found out about their daughter's absence, the Aquilamon returned to the Digital World in grief and promised himself to never mate with a human again.
Mobile Suit Gundam is the true enemy of Pretty Cure!
Long, Long Time ago, there was once a peaceful world between the Mecha no Sekai and the Mahou Shoujo no Sekai, all was fine...until the death of Lalah Sune. The forces of Zeon began diving to occult research to revive the first newtype with terrifying success
Lalah, reincarnated, became two halfs, the mentoring Luna and the evil Queen Beryl. Amuro learned of this and became Tuxedo Mask, promising to help Luna in fighting off her evil half. And thus the great Gundam War began. The first Magical Girl Invasion Force consisted of Lowe Guile, Garma Zabi, and the deceased Psycho Mantis. Amuro knew that however darker days were ahead as he lost his memories after being corrupted by Beryl. Having a memory of him fight a Crossbone Vanguard and Preventers before reawakening as the legend, he returned to see that Garrod Ran, and a good deal of Zeon (Kycillia and M'Quive) continuing the war. However, the sailor senshi recruited many allies, Shinji Ikari and Rain Nakamura joined the allies of justice. During the Death Buster War, Quess, Puru and Tifa naively joined the forces of Nememsis and was summarily defeated the Sailor Senshi. Haman Kahn, devastated that so many have died, declared war using the Dark Circus as a front and first used Kai Shinden, Trieze and Athrun. When the first trio fell, she used a clone of Rain, Katejina Loos using two constructs as her means to destroy the magical girl universe. The final war ends with Rei from SPT Layzner possessing Elle from Gundam ZZ and Aina Saharin being the sole members of Gundam leading the final war. In spite of their final defeat at hands of the allies of justice. They corrupted Sailor Venus, who will go on to terrorize the Precure no Sekai. During the course of the first great mahou shoujo war skirmishes (movies), Christina from Gundam0080 had heard word that Heero Yuy had been seduced by Cecily Fairchild of Mobile Suit Gundam F91 (under the control of her father, in exchange for Seabook's life) to deliver a deadly biological weapon that was to follow up with the Bugs as well as a jilted lover of Amuro's who was assisted by Kamille Bidan, the other would had played a song to Cure Flower, telling her of grim times ahead
The War intervention Force consisting of Sumeragi, Relena, Lacus and C.C, had heard of the dreaded Gundam Army invading this world to bring never ending war they ordered the Precure to be formed. Granting the ability to stop the conflict, the gift of Precure was given to three girls aided by Domon Kasshu who teaches them how to actually fight. They were able to fend off an attack force consisting of Kira's father, the corrupted Sailor Venus as well as Garrod Ran and the first Great Leader Zengar. In Zengar's dying breath he orders the formation of the true Great Leader: The man who ordered the gassing of 300 bunch, Jamitov Hymen.
Realizing the first wave of gundams failed, he forces Henken to invade the precure no sekai aided by UNE Commander Jaggia Frost. Sophia, a friend of Kira. Heard about the impending invasion, Kira told Sophia to choose two random girls as Precures. Despite the limited resources, they prevent what could have been an age of eternal strife, but the real precure war was about to begin...
In Yes! Precure, Precure fought against Precure, Gundam prepares their invicible legions to invade and to do that, they demanded OZ to contribute their warchest to the effort, forming a corporation based in SE Asia to plan the war.
The Yes! Precure no Sekai war effort was a huge one. Hiring several veterans from the first gundam conflict and bringing Garrod Ran back to destroy the world as well the Man from Jupiter. They also gotten a few female gundam aces on duty. Neena, Kiki and Paula aided in the war. However Saji refused to accept the fate of Gundam and joined Precure with of G-Gen Original Billy Blaze. The war was won but with great cost, Jamitov overthrew Zengar as the leader of Dai-Gundam and ordered an invasion on the Fresh Precure no Sekai...
The Fresh Precure no Sekai had another old Ace back to invade the world, Coroner and Shinn Asuka. Who was told to invade the Precure no Sekai, after the invasions hit a stop gap. They sent in Vancuria to try and finish what they started and Jamitov personally led the charge. The great leader was defeated when Shinn refused to join Gundam and reawakened his Kamen Rider spirit to stop Labyrinth and Vancuria's efforts to make a field base for Infershia. However, the Infershia's invasion is about to begin...with Shinn's father...
Dai-Gundam's main forces, in shock of the betrayal of Shinn and Ryuutaros, took their anger out on the main dimension of Super Sentai, Shadam. The Big Bad of Dairanger, told many of Dai-Gundam's forces to attack Super Sentai, led by Kamille Bidan and aided by many Gundam Zeta cast members, Kamille earned the priviledge to invade the Goseiger's world as Bureidoran. This is the explanation why no major characters from Gundam is lending their aid to destroy Pretty Cure, except the women. Unfortunately Kamille was able to capture Honoka and convert her to an agent of Warstar by using a Xenomorph (And using her remains to turn her to a Greeed and later converted Love as well. However, Johan, wishing to wishing to redeem himself from his sister, assumes the mantle of Gosei Knight and along with the Goseigers defeats Kamille.
Dai-Gundam w/ its new allies, Infershia and the Org tribe (led by Loki), planned an invasion of the Heartcatch Pretty Cure no Sekai. Luckily, new allies of justice rose in the form of Fate Testarrosa, Gidget with Kid Salsamille. In addition to the Pretty Cure commanders such as Sumeragi, Lacus, Tessa, and Relena, Lindy Harlown also joined the group, adding to the force was Stellar Loussier who Shinn when working secretly for Labyrinth had rescued as Kamen Rider Den-o and giving her the powers of Cure Sunshine before going off to fight off members of gundam. But Dai-Gundam has its newest superstar in the form of another commander: Kati Mannequin. Chosen for her fighting and detective skills and also a brilliant strategist, she also took Nena Trinity's "Dark Lemonade" DNA and used it to transform into the Dark Pretty Cure. As soon as Shinn saved Stellar from the clutches of Gundam, Heero Yuy, corrupted by the Xenian Flower and Negataros was turned to Heat convinced that Sera was kidnapped by the Cures and declared himself leader of the invasion after suffering from Saaya's infection. The betrayal of Athrun Zala was a devastating blow to Dai-Gundam itself, which it also leads to his murder at the hands of Kati. With this heartbreaking news, Lindy Harlaown decided to lead a team of scientists to research and create new weapons, including the RahXephon, to put and end to the war and even then Heat was able to bring forth Ali Al Sarchez to wreck havoc on humanity and had Zaspine attack them in the grand crossover.
In Suite Precure, new heroes arise from the vengence of those who lost loved ones to Dai-Gundam, Meyrin Hawke recovering from the grief of losing Athrun rises as Cure Rhythm while Kallen who was disgusted at how Kamille goes so far as to not only create one kaijin but two from C.C's body became Cure Melody and Mirallia, part of the Gundam SEED pact, becomes Cure Beat and fights to stop Masshymere. Both vow to defeat who will rise up as the dark forces of Dai-Gundam who are led by Masshymere Cello (In reality, Agent Abrella is the true mastermind behind the plot), while at the same time, the Goukaiger now fight off Garterbelt, Winter One, a resurrected Cobraja and a corrupted Aina...
In Kamen Rider Fourze, Kumojacky has succeeded in taking Lacus' DNA and turning her into a Horoscope, a superior form of the Zodiarts. While he does that he takes over the body of a teacher in the faculty to further the purposes of Dai Gundam...now only Cure Black remains uncorrupted by the forces of Dai Gundam. But currently in Smile Precure, the Precure side increased in power as new members joined in: Yoshika Miyafuji, a former Strike Witch, joins the group as Cure Happy; Ika Musune, abandoning her plans to invade earth in favor of peace, turns into Cure Peace; Dark Dream has also become Cure Beauty, as a change of heart allows her to use her powers for good, albeit at a small cost as she no longer has Cure Dream's powers. But the unexpected is that they have found a new superstar who will rise among the legends. It was none other than Metal Alice, a former agent of the Matrinis Empire, who fought the Goseigers. Alice, seeing Kamille's cruel experiments on Honoka and her discovery of the power of friendship, she becomes Cure March and defects to the side of justice and stop the many incarnations of Buredoran from capturing more Cures to become kaijin servants! The war with Gundam comes to an end when Masshymere Cello joins the side of good and the Cures will forever hold a steady vigil for the Puella Magi who's corrupted goddess has forever destroyed the meaning of magical girls.
- I declare this theory TV Tropes Made of Win Archive.
- Bah. Just mindless blabber.
- The random Madoka Magica potshot doesn't help much, either...
Tsubomi Hanasaki and Momoko Hanasaki are related.
My guess is that they're cousins.
- But what does that make the fandom joke about Ayumi being Momoko in the future?
- Exactly what it was before. A joke.
Pretty Cure will become the Super Sentai of Magical Girl anime.
Isn't it already?
- In addition, the crossovers would soon be limited to the previous season and focus more on the bond between the teams. And if Digimon is successfully brought back, maybe there'll be crossover movies between them...
Komachi and Madoka are Retasu's daughters.
Their Uncanny Family Resemblance will last forever.
- But Tokyo Mew Mew is set in 2002 and Pretty Cure ran in real time up until GoGo, where it was retconned to running in Comic Book Time. How does that work? At all?
- Said retcon was introduced while Komachi was part of the main cast. Clearly, that happened specifically to make it work.
- But Tokyo Mew Mew is set in 2002 and Pretty Cure ran in real time up until GoGo, where it was retconned to running in Comic Book Time. How does that work? At all?
Michiru and Kaoru becoming Cure Bright and Cure Windy was not a normal ability of theirs, but a one-time move made possible by their bonds with Saki and Mai.
Thus why they've been absent from later teamups.
After the next iteration has another Shrinking Violet main character, the next two would be Kuudere
Think about it. The first two leaders were tomboys. The next two were Genki Girls. The current leader is Shrinking Violet, so after we have a second Shrinking Violet leader, the next two leaders might be Kuudere, or some other personality.
- Appears to be Jossed for now; our next season's heroine looks like the typical fiery Tomboy of the first two seasons.
- And Miyuki appears to be a Genki Girl like Nozomi and Love, so definitely Jossed.
The heroines of Suite Pretty Cure will be Expies of Tsubomi and Erika
A la Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star.
- So that would make Heartcatch the true reboot of the series?
- Probably Jossed; Hibiki and Kanade sound more like a longer-haired Nagisa and a blonde Honoka than anything.
- Really? With their description, I'm seeing Tsubomi and Erika... but with the lead as Erika Mk.II instead of Tsubomi.
- Nah, Erika isn't as good in sports and Tsubomi probably isn't interested in baking.
- Really? With their description, I'm seeing Tsubomi and Erika... but with the lead as Erika Mk.II instead of Tsubomi.
Pretty Cure All Stars DX3 won't be the last All Stars movie.
After that, the All Stars movie series will take a small hiatus, and in a few years, come back in full force with Pretty Cure All Stars DX4ever Pink, which will be the most Badass movie of the franchise.
- Sorta confirmed. There will be another All Stars movie, All Stars New Stage.
The next season after Suite will have a sweets theme.
Heartcatch had a flower theme with some musical elements, Suite has a music theme with some sweets-related elements... See where I'm going with this?
- Jossed; Smile appears to have a fairy tale thematic, judging by the recently leaked info.
The next series will have (a) male Cure(s)
Think about it. Since Yes! Pretty Cure 5, the Cures always have males as helpers and/or joke Cures, or at least suspected to be one.
- Yes! Pretty Cure 5 has Coco, Natts, Syrup, and Bunbee. In Go Go movie, Kokoda and Natsu become Cure Coco and Cure Nuts to explain the Miracle Lights to the audience.
- Fresh Pretty Cure has Kaoru-chan helping the girls to defeat a Nakewameke in one episode. In earlier episode, the girls even imagined him as a Cure. In the end, Westar and Soular are purified by Chiffon, get new powers and costumes in the process and participate in the final battle. And then there's Donuts Brothers. But alas, they got Michiru and Kaoru treatment in DX movies.
- Heartcatch Pretty Cure has Ban-kun imagines himself as Cure Fire (complete with costume and catchphrase!) just an episode before Sunshine's debut. And then there's Zetsubou Kamen/Coupe, who often helps Blossom and co.
- Suite Pretty Cure has Kanade imagined Ouji-kun as Cure Muse in episode 14. Trio the Minor's Transformation Sequence in the beginning of episode 26 is a parody of several Cures' transformation. Let's just say it wasn't pretty. Oh and Otokichi was a warrior in his youth. He's also had Muse's piano attack.
Notice the progression. From just helpers, helpers with Cure-like power, Cure costume and catchphrase, and finally transformation sequence. Just add few things that are necessary for Cures and we're now ready for a male Cure.
Of course, this theory can be applied to further series in case the next one after this Jossed it. Even though there could always be a Sixth Ranger...
- Or they could tease us further with this by having Faux Action Major Guy Characters or pulling off a Kamen Rider Double or Choujin Barom 1, with a boy and a girl combining into one precure, with the girl being the dominant body and the combined precure herself being female. And finally, during an anniversary special, Word of God will conform there will never be true male precure, as an ultimate Troll of the internet.
- Happiness Charge Pretty Cure has Cure Unlovely, who's civilian form is male.
In the tenth series, there will be Cures the ability to transform into past Cures.
Gokai Pretty Cure, perhaps?
Michiru and Kaoru were originally humans.
When the other members of Dark Fall died, they returned to their original forms—even Moerumba, whose original form was heat, was able to shape glass into his image before finally expiring to show what he'd been. However, the twins stayed the same every time they died or nearly died, except when the spirits revived them (twice) in the ending arc, when their eyes stopped looking creepy and they started to look more human. Could that have been their original form? If so, it would explain why Akudaikaan and Gouyaan didn't just kill them when they rebelled, but instead sank them to the bottom of the ocean. If they were to return to their original form as humans who didn't need the power of destruction and ran on a normal life force, that would have been spectacularly counterproductive.
In this season or future seasons one of the male villians will force a member of the Pretty Cure to marry him.
I know they won't do it because most of the girls' are underage but it would be interesting to see a male villian do a Scarpia Ultimatum in the finale and have the rest of the Cures save that member from being forced to marry the villian.
The tenth anniversary team will consist of characters that had been introduced in previous seasons.
It will consist of the following characters.
- Futari wa Pretty Cure: Yuka Odajima
- Lulun will become her Transformation Trinket
- Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star: Michiru and Kaoru Kiryuu
- Yes! Pretty Cure 5: Mika Masuko
- Fresh Pretty Cure: Miyuki Chinen
- Heartcatch Pretty Cure: Momoka Kurumi
- Suite Pretty Cure: Waon Nishijima and Seika Higashiyama
- Jossed, but the same idea could occur in a later anniversary season.
- Smile Pretty Cure: Candy
- Dokidoki Pretty Cure: Regina
- Happiness Charge Pretty Cure: Ohana and Orina. Furthermore, Miyo Masuko will become a cure for a single episode.
Cure Echo is actually result of the Décor Miracle Lights' power.
During the climax, acknowledging Ayumi's desire to become a Cure herself, Candy and the other mascots wave their Miracle Lights in order to grant her wish. The power of the Miracle Lights not only makes the Cures stronger (like always), but also forms the white Transformation Cure Décor, which allows Ayumi to temporarily become Cure Echo and fight alongside the others. This explains why she isn't present in the ending dance: she loses her powers after Fusion is defeated.
Major and Minor Lands and Märchenland are both located inside Braneworlds from Engine Sentai Go-onger.
Sound World and Magic World, respectively.
The pre-Fresh characters being Demoted to Extra in Pretty Cure All Stars New Stage is an attempt to keep the movies from turning completely into Forever Pink.
Let's face it. Looking at past performance, Love, Tsubomi, Hibiki, and Miyuki are probably already going to be a Spotlight-Stealing Squad. Throw in Nagisa, Saki, and Nozomi, and the writers would probably forget anyone else was in the movie.
