Infinite Undiscovery/Characters
Heroes
Capell
The main character of Infinite Undiscovery. Capell was raised in a troupe of bards and as such is very skilled at playing the flute. At the beginning of the game he has been captured and thrown in prison, though he has no idea why. Shortly after, he gets saved by Aya. It's soon revealed that he looks exactly like the leader of the Liberation Force.
- Accidental Pervert: Kind of. He accidentally cops a feel on Vic at one point.
- Action Survivor: At the very beginning of the game; he gets plunged into a sweeping conflict that he really wants nothing to do with, but manages to hold his own anyway.
- Badass Normal
- Though given how Unblessed people are not viewed as 'normal' in this world, he's more like a Badass Abnormal, in a weird way.
- Berserk Button: Insulting or mocking Unblessed is enough to get him angry.
- Character Development: While not as obvious as Edward's, Capell stops thinking in terms of survival as the story progresses. At one point at the beginning of the game he says that the Liberation Force is foolish for running into fights, even if it's because they want to do the right thing; when they reach Port Zala, he runs off to break the chain with the same kind of reckless attitude that he had berated earlier.
- Chick Magnet: By the end of the game, Aya and Faina are in love with him, and Michelle, Vic and Komachi seem to have a thing for him. Though, at least in Michelle and Komachi's cases, this is because he looks like Sigmund.
- Cursed with Awesome: Being an Unblessed allows him to be the only one in the party to see Vermiforms.
- Despair Event Horizon: After Faina and Leif get killed by vermiforms, Capell hits rock bottom. This is even reflected in the other party members' descriptions, which are all from his point of view.
- Gameplay and Story Segregation: He says he's not any good at fighting... but that doesn't stop him from holding his own and having a few special attacks at the very beginning of the game.
- Generation Xerox: He looks remarkably like his father, Sigmund, who is, by magical quirk, the same age as him.
- Giver of Lame Names: Capell keeps giving his very pretty songs terrible names, like "The Slovenly Serenade" or "Fleeing Dog Rhapsody". Eventually, Aya just decides she doesn't want to know.
- The Hero: After Sigmund dies.
- Heroic BSOD: After Faina and Leif's deaths, he begins to resent lunaglyphs and their users.
- Heroic Sacrifice: He returns later, however.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Kind of a retrospective example; his voice actor also played Faize from Star Ocean: The Last Hope, but it came out later.
- Idiot Hero: Not an idiot so much as clueless and uninformed, though one could argue that the latter is due to reasons entirely out of his control. He also gets noticeably more world-weary during his travels and makes less ignorant comments toward the end of the game.
- Magic Music: The melodies he plays can do things from just sounding nice to curing vermification.
- The Masquerade: Poses as Sigmund after he dies to keep peoples' hope alive.
- Mistaken Identity: Everyone thinks he's Sigmund. It's why he's captured in the first place.
- Nice Guy
- Non-Action Guy: At first. He's better with a flute than a sword, anyway.
- Only Sane Man
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: They look kind of orange/brown in the concept art, but in the actual game... Averted, because he's a good guy.
- Redheaded Hero
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Despite his red clothes, he's the blue to Edward's red.
- The Scrappy: In-universe example, mainly due to being a Non-Action Guy surrounded by badasses.
- Tagalong Kid: At first.
Aya
Capell's Love Interest, Aya is a fiery and spirited girl who happens to be a princess. She first appears when she comes to save Capell from prison. However, she believed she was saving Lord Sigmund. Needless to say, she is very displeased when she finds out Capell is not who she thought he was. But she helps him out anyway.
- Action Girl: The first thing she does is slit a guard's throat... while doing a back-flip off of him.
- The Archer
- Aw, Look -- They Really Do Love Each Other: Especially at the end of the game.
- Badass Adorable
- Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Capell for most of the game. It's mostly one-sided, though.
- Bridal Carry: Near the beginning of the game, she is injured and must be carried to safety in this manner.
- Blue Eyes: Well, blue-green eyes, anyway.
- Cutscene Power to the Max: She can never flip around on enemies the way she can in the opening cutscene. But she's still pretty Badass.
- Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs
- Green-Eyed Monster: Usually when Faina's around Capell.
- Playing with Fire
- Rebellious Princess
- Royals Who Actually Do Something
- Tsundere
- Waif Fu: In the opening cutscene.
- Well, Excuse Me, Princess!
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She hates bugs/reptiles.
- Zettai Ryouiki
Sigmund aka Volsung, King of Casandra
A Rebel Leader called 'The Liberator,' Sigmund is the leader of the Liberation Force. He has taken it upon himself to cut the chains binding the moon to the land, and has inspired others to join him. After he gets his Lunaglyph removed, he can no longer break the chains. It also ultimately leads to his death, as he dies protecting Capell. He was once named Volsung, and was the King of Casandra. He's also actually Capell's father, which explains the whole Mistaken Identity thing. When it was discovered that Capell was an Unblessed, Volsung willingly had his lunaglyph removed, which de-aged him.
- Badass: He shatters gigantic, moon-binding chains for a living and has earned the respect of pretty much every important person you encounter. His name is known far and wide throughout the world. Hell, one of his titles is Living Legend.
- Brought Down to Normal: When he willingly had his Lunaglyph removed.
- The Hero
- Heroic Sacrifice
- Hot Dad: Capell's, to be exact.
- Identical Stranger: To Capell.
- Living Legend: One of his titles. And, well...
- Capell, He Was Your Father
- Older Than They Look
- Plot-Relevant Age-Up: Inverted, as a result of removing his Lunaglyph, he was aged down. Played with in that the age-down was undone when he got a new one... but he'd taken The Slow Path back to his former age, so there was no visible change.
- Rebel Leader
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Though a much more serious and determined person than Capell (at first, anyway), Sigmund averts this in that he is The Hero and, while not exactly a Nice Guy, he's obviously a good man.
- Redheaded Hero
- Royals Who Actually Do Something
- Shout-Out: He's named after a character from the Volsunga Saga. Well, okay, two of them. But still.
- Too Cool to Live
Edward
A member of the Liberation Force, Edward uses a gigantic sword in battle. While Aya is merely a Tsundere towards Capell, Edward is an outright Jerkass, verbally berating him at every turn. Eventually, he gets turned into a vermiform, goes crazy, and destroys part of a city. Capell manages to cure Edward before the latter dies of excess power. Afterwards, he realizes how ridiculous he was behaving and decides to mellow out.
- Ascended Fanboy
- BFS: His weapon of choice.
- Break the Haughty: When his Power Increased Lunaglyph goes out of control and he is almost killed.
- Character Development: Goes from trying to be a perfect leader and a replacement Sigmund who constantly bullies and belittles Capell, to being a generally okay guy who becomes Capell's best friend.
- David Vincent: His voice actor.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Edward is also Li Xingke, Grimmjow, and Jin Kisaragi.
- Hot-Blooded
- Ill Guy: For a short while, right before he goes berserk and tears up a city.
- Jerkass: Towards Capell until his Break the Haughty moment.
- The Lancer: When he eventually accepts Capell as the leader of the group.
- Large Ham: Due to either yelling all the time or saying things really, really dramatically. Notably, he stops doing this (outside of battle, anyway) after his Character Development kicks in.
- Pet the Dog: It's mentioned that he treats Rico and Rucha nicely.
- And he gains a bonus in battle if an ally falls.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Despite his blue clothes, he's the red to Capell's blue.
Eugene
Another member of the Liberation Force, Eugene has known Sigmund since they were both kids.
- Badass Preacher: Would you believe that he's really a priest?
- Brainy Specs
- Can't Hold His Liquor
- Never Speak Ill of the Dead: Played with. It's obvious he has great respect for Sigmund, but after the latter's death, Eugene starts to say how foolish and arrogant Sigmund was in life. He's basically the only one who talks about Sigmund as though he was a human.
- Older Sidekick: To Sigmund. He mentions in a rather obscure conversation that he's at least nine years older than Sigmund.
- The Smart Guy
- Stoic Spectacles
Balbagon
- An Axe to Grind
- The Big Guy
- Boisterous Bruiser
- Hey, It's That Voice!: He is voiced by Micheal Mc Connohie, who you may know as Emperor Charles or Van Grants, in addition to countless other roles.
- Large Ham
- No Indoor Voice
Genma
Rico
- The Beast Master
- Bratty Half-Pint
- Cheerful Child
- Child Mage
- Expy: Let's see, he can use magic, he's a Half Identical Twin, and he's small and annoying? Sounds kind of like Palom.
- Idle Animation: He and Rucha never seem to stop moving.
- Tagalong Kid
Rucha
- Cheerful Child
- Child Mage
- Expy: She's the nicer half of a pair of Half-Identical Twins, and she can use magic. She's almost a carbon-copy of Porom.
- Genki Girl
- Idle Animation: She and Rico are constantly moving around, even if standing still.
- Summon Magic
- Tagalong Kid
Michelle
- Fan Girl: To Sigmund.
- Gag Boobs
- Jiggle Physics
- Magical Girl
- The Medic
- Ms. Fanservice
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Flying monsters.
Savio
- Cunning Linguist: One of his titles.
- Getting Crap Past the Radar: One of his titles is 'Cunning Linguist.'
- Hidden Depths: Sure he's wise and stoic, but he also has an interesting sense of humor. Unfortunately most examples of this can only be found when you connect to either him or certain other people... and it's hard to know when and where these dialogues occur unless you have a guide.
- Specifically, during one connected conversation between Savio and Eugene, Savio goes on a long spiel about how to temper one's inner power and how not to let yourself overuse your lunaglyph... and then advertises his book. And then Capell and Eugene both respond with Visible Silence.
- The Smart Guy
- The Stoic
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair
Dominica
A mercenary who has known Aya for quite some time.
Gustav
- Everything's Worse with Bears: Worse for the enemy, that is!
- And to Capell. One of Gustav's titles is 'Capellivore.'
- Green-Eyed Monster: Played for Laughs. He hates it when Aya gives Capell any attention whatsoever.
- Team Pet
Vic
- Dead Older Brother
- No Indoor Voice: Mostly due to the voice actor.
- Tagalong Kid
- Wholesome Crossdresser
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Aquatic Monsters.
Kiriya
A hermit whom the party seeks out to help cure Edward's vermification.
Touma
Komachi
- Beauty Mark: Under her left eye.
- Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs
- Highly-Visible Ninja: She wears yellow, for starters.
- Improbable Hairstyle
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: The undead.
Kristofer
- The Archer: Primarily uses crossbows, but he can equip bows.
- Chivalrous Pervert: One of his first lines of dialogue is a ridiculous pickup line at Aya, but he acts as though he and Seraphina have been together for years.
- Dub Name Change: Was 'Kristophe' in the Japanese version.
- Handsome Lech
- Improbable Aiming Skills: Lampshaded by the game itself.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Was a weapons designer until he saw how deadly his creations could be.
- Nice Hat: Nice aviator hat you got there, Kristopher.
- Perma-Stubble
Seraphina
- But for Me It Was Tuesday: Kristofer recalls rescuing her in a daring fashion, but Seraphina doesn't seem to remember his involvement at all.
- Dub Name Change: Was 'Serafima' in the Japanese version.
- Lady of War: Is noted as being very elegant.
- The Stoic
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Chickens.
Villains
Leonid
The villain of Infinite Undiscovery. He's the son of Empress Svala.
- A God Am I
- The Dragon
- Disc One Final Boss
- Fashion Victim Villain: Though his clothes really aren't out of place in this setting, his outfit is remarkably similar to Loki's and is just as ridiculous.
- Femme Fatalons: A rare male example.
- Freudian Excuse: It's shown that, as a child, he was very jealous of the attention his mother heaped on the de-aged Sigmund. In the same scene, a familiar, evil-looking silhouette can be seen looming over him...
- Large Ham: For some bizarre reason, his voice actor seems to be channeling a very self-aware, parodic William Shatner. This leads to many stilted, oddly-enunciated line readings, but on the other hand makes him seem like he's not all there, which gives him an overly-theatrical Mad Scientist kind of vibe.
- Mask Power
- Too Many Belts
- White-Haired Pretty Boy: Even though half of his face is obscured by a mask, he's still pretty good-looking.
Saranda
- Dark Action Girl
- Evil Redhead
- Eyes of Gold
- Femme Fatale
- Lady in Red
- Pet the Dog: She's very loyal to Leonid. It serves to make her both a Foil to Aya and humanizes her a bit.
- Uncanny Valley Makeup: She seems to have heaped on tons of red eyeshadow, which makes her look sleep-deprived and maniacal.
- Undying Loyalty: To Leonid.
