Eve Torres
Eve Torres is a female American professional wrestler who has competed exclusively in WWE and is currently on the Raw brand. She won the final Diva Search competition in 2007 and was featured as a backstage interviewer before finally stepping into the ring in 2009. She has the distinction of being the first Diva Search winner to win a title, the Divas' Championship to be specific, which she has now held twice.
Eve Torres provides examples of the following tropes:
- Accidental Kiss: It seemed like it when Cena rescued Eve from Kane and the ambulance and she was caught up in the moment, not realizing Zack had seen everything. Subverted big time when she reveals the week after she'd been using Zack and trying to reel in the "big fish" to get some big-time notoriety.
- Action Girl: Her wrestling ability might be debatable, but she is a student of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in real life, and is definitely not someone you want to make angry.
- Alpha Bitch: Her heel turn initially started as The Vamp but seems to have morphed into this during her tenure as a Sexy Secretary.
- Armour Piercing Slap: To Michelle McCool. Subverted with Zack Ryder at WrestleMania where instead of slapping him she kicked him down below.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: She told The Miz he was quite possibly the furthest thing from awesome the WWE had ever seen. And he was ugly.
- I Take Offence to That Last One: Out of the stream of insults in the first part of the promo (including "brainless" and "uninspired") he took offence to being called a "frog-faced loser".
- Ascended Extra: Went from being an interviewer to an active wrestler.
- Bait and Switch: One interview with Triple H had him strangely fixated on something on her chest area. He remarked that they were round, perfectly shaped and his mom had a set just like them. Eve replied that yes they were real and Triple H eagerly reached out to touch the pearls around her neck.
- Of course, this is Triple freaking H we're talking about, so even that turned into a case of Don't Explain the Joke.
- Bastard Girlfriend: Towards Zack Ryder.
- Battle Ballgown: See Pimped-Out Dress below.
- Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Beauty? Well duh. Brains? Graduated from the University of Southern California with an Engineering degree. Brawn? Has a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
- Also applies in character. Beauty? Duh. Brains? She's The Vamp now. Brawn? She fits the look, and we've seen she's plenty athletic.
- Also applies in the trio in which she finds herself. Obviously, she's the beauty (although she seems plenty smart). David Otunga is the Brawn - despite being an apparently articulate and intelligent lawyer-type character, he's also absolutely jacked and the most likely to volunteer to fight someone on Laurinaitis' behalf. The reason he's not the brains is, well...he's not smart enough to pick his fights more carefully, resulting in him ending up in the ring with guys like John Cena, CM Punk, and Sheamus. Laurinaitis, of course, is the brains.
- Beauty Is Bad: Has become a good in-ring wrestler but is still disliked by a vast amount of fans purely for her "modelling career" which consists of a few photo shoots and nothing else. This may have contributed to how hard the crowd jumped against Eve the minute she kissed Cena on 2/13/12.
- Beware the Nice Ones: As Michael Cole learned the hard way.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Was revaled to be one on the 2/20/12 episode of Raw
- Captain Ersatz/Distaff Counterpart: Her heel gimmick seems to be a female Dave Batista.
- Cat Fight: With Kelly Kelly during a Jerry Springer segment. Another with Maryse at the make-up table.
- Darkskinned Blonde: In 2010.
- Demoted to Extra: Twice now. Got shunted aside for Melina in 2010 and this year for Kelly Kelly. She never even got her Divas' Championship rematch.
- Damsel in Distress: Along with Zack Ryder, has been one of the people Kane has been targeting, in his quest to make Cena embrace the hate. Unlike with Zack, whom he has put out of action for god knows how long, Kane does a lot of stalking when it comes to Eve.
- Tried pulling this, along with the Crocodile Tears ploy, to make John Cena pity and comfort her after his verbal tirade against her for ostracizing him from Zack. Almost worked, but going for the kiss turned him off pretty quickly.
- Embarrassing Nickname: "Hoeski", bestowed on her by John Cena and the fans chant it whenever they see her. In real life she's probably thrilled about it considering hardly any heels in WWE can get reactions these days. "Eve Whorres" is another popular one.
- Epic Fail: Her one spot in the 10 diva tag match at WrestleMania 26 where she tried her flipping senton on Maryse and didn't make contact.
- Even Evil Has Standards: It may seem odd that the Bella Twins were uneasy about Eve's plan to manipulate Cena like she did Zack, but not so much when you consider that they genuinely like Zack and that when they hung around the guest stars mainly for notoriety's sake, they never tried to manipulate them into anything serious.
- Expository Hairstyle Change: Subtly after her Face Heel Turn was cemented. She wore her hair up for the first time in a very long time during her first heel 'promo.'
- Expy: Her new heel gimmick as John Laurinaitis's "Executive Assistant" is identical to Stacy Keibler's "Miss Hancock" and Brooke Adams's "Miss Tessmacher".
- Face Heel Turn: As of 2/20/2012. Not only was it sudden and unexpected, It literally happened in the first 2½ minutes of the show.
- It was even more surprising in historical context. Until earlier this year, Eve and Kelly Kelly were the only two female titlists in WWE in the past 15 years to have never been heels.
- Femme Fatale / The Vamp: Heel!Eve fancies herself as this.
- Finishing Move: She actually went through a period of trying different finishers out. First she had a handspring into a splash, then her moonsault which she rarely used, an innovated arm bar from the top rope, an incredibly silly headscissors facebuster move and finally settled on the corkscrew neckbreaker.
- Five Moves of Doom: She's one of the divas who defies this trope on a regular basis, always making sure to mix up her moves in every match so she brings something new to the table.
- Foe Yay: During her feud with Maryse anyway.
- Genre Savvy: She was in a match against Brie Bella who had a habit of switching with her twin sister to win matches. She brought down a pen and drew an X on one twin so they couldn't pull the switch. Ironically Brie won the match anyway.
- Girl Next Door
- Hidden Depths: Teaches free self defence classes to young women.
- Hollywood Pudgy: Averted. She's of noticeably more muscular frame than the likes of Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox and the Bella Twins but the announcers don't mention this.
- I Don't Want to Ruin Our Friendship: On the 2/13/12 Raw, she explained to Zack this was the reason she didn't see them in a relationship. He might've been more receptive to the idea if he hadn't seen her kissing Cena after her rescue from Kane.
- Friends with Benefits: Says she wants to be this with Zack Ryder after everything that's happened. Of course, Eve being who she is, you'd have to take that with a grain of salt at best. Then again, when another Diva proposes the same thing, Eve's not up for sharing, which does sort of makes you wonder.
- I Have the High Ground: Uses a moonsault as a finisher. Also uses a springboard enziguri from the middle rope. Sometimes a crossbody as well.
- Lovely Angels: Has done this with three divas, Melina, Gail Kim and Kelly Kelly. Only with Gail has she been the main one though.
- Manipulative Bitch: Ever since her Heel turn, Eve has been manipulating Zack Ryder feelings and has him chasing her like a love sick puppy.
- Mood Whiplash: Oh, boy. She starts off the 2/20/12 Raw by saying she was only using Zack Ryder for attention and was now gonna cast him aside now that she's hooked "The Big Fish." This turned the entire WWE against her nearly instantly. However, a little later, while Cena (who has something of a Jerk Sue reputation) is verbally tearing her apart, she collapses into a violently crying heap in the middle of the ring, and it's a little uncomfortable to watch.
- Ms. Fanservice
- Never Live It Down: Since her initial heel turn, her character has developed into a heel manager's ball-busting female assistant. But the "HOESKI" chants from her angle with Zack Ryder have still stuck.
- Pimped-Out Dress: Whenever there's an award ceremony.
- Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Won a battle royal while wearing an evening gown.
- Right Behind Me: On the 2/20/12 episode of Raw she told the Bella Twins how she just used Zack Ryder and how she planned to do the same with John Cena. Guess who was behind her the entire time.
- Screwed by the Network: She has the same problem that Kofi Kingston tends to have in that, while she does get pushed, her full potential clearly doesn't get tapped into. Both her title wins had minimal build up and her title match with Beth Phoenix at Survivor Series had no build up on her side.
- Sexy Secretary: Has taken up this role to Johnny Laurinaitis.
- Sexy Spectacles too.
- Ship Tease: With the Great Khali, R-Truth, Jack Swagger and The Miz. Chris Masters as well but then they became an actual couple for a brief period. Now, it's Zack Ryder.
- Subverted hard. Poor Zack.
- TWICE.
- Subverted hard. Poor Zack.
- Shout-Out: Dressed up as Raphael for Halloween in 2008 and as Robin this year.
- Her current ring gear is very clearly modeled after Wonder Woman, possibly even more so than other notable Wondy-inspired Divas, such as Beth Phoenix.
- Spicy Latina: A notable subversion. She's been the only one of as many as five Latina divas whose background has never been played up.
- Spot Monkey: She showed signs of this mid-2009 when she was doing a lot of flippy stuff but really shaky with the basics. Now she's avoided that completely.
- Stripperiffic: Depends on how you look at it. Some of her outfits could be considered provocative but compared to other divas she's not that exposed.
- Subverted in her Sexy Secretary gimmick, where she dresses much more conservatively - and is arguably even sexier for it.
- Suspiciously Similar Song: Her new theme is one of "Call On Me".
- The Dog Bites Back: As Michael Cole will tell you, do NOT piss her off.
- Token Minority Couple: Not an actual couple but what are the odds three Latina divas on the roster end up feuding with each other?
- Took a Level in Badass: Went from doing bikini contests to doing moonsaults.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: And pretty much destroying Zack Ryder.
- Villainous Breakdown: Was pretty much a sobbing wreck after she tried to "explain" to John why she did why she did. Didn't help any that she decided to do so in the ring and the fact John gave her one big verbal beatdown.
- Who Wears Short Shorts?: Her ring gear. The exception is her first match where she wore a girdle.
