Bobobo-Bo Bo-bobo/Characters/The Rebels
Main Characters
Tropes Associated With The Rebels
- Idiot Hero: Only Softon, Beauty and Gasser come up as the most mature and sensible people of the group.
- Nakama: In a really screwed up way.
- Cloudcuckoolander: The only sane ones are Beauty, Gasser and Softon, but even they have their moments.
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (JP), Richard Epcar (EN)
The master of Fist of the Nosehair, he travels the world in order to destroy the Hair Hunt Troops. He is originally accompanied by Beauty until Don Patch and Gasser come along on his nonscencial adventures. He is a Cloudcuckoolander incarnate, being almost absolutely incomprehensiable and there are so many weird things about him that even his own allies are preplexed by him, when he's not using them as shields. He is actually the heir to the Hair Kingdom, to which his older brother responds by starting the Hair Hunt conflict in the first place.
- Afro Asskicker: To the point that his afro will sometimes be part of his attack.
- Ambiguously Brown: Is he a light-skinned black guy with blond hair, or a white guy with a tan?
- Bare Your Midriff (male example)
- Berserk Button: He may act like an idiot most of the time, but if you try to hurt Beauty then he will get serious.
- Cloudcuckoolander: A poster boy for this trope.
- Crossdresser: Has a female personality regularly called Bo-boko (or "Bo-bobette" depending on which version you're watching).
- Dark-Skinned Blond: Again, is he a white guy with a tan, or is a a light skinned black guy with blond hair?
- Dark and Troubled Past: Being abused by two horribly abusive brothers, then surviving the onslaught of his entire home caused by one of his brothers.
- Expy: He's pretty much a goofy parody of Kenshiro[1].
- Hammerspace: His afro. And his nostrils.
- The Hero: Of this storyDespite what Don Patch thinks....
- Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Every other second he isn't bringing the hurt on the bad guys, he's using his allies as shields or attacking them for no reason. All except Beauty.
- Hypocritical Humor
Bobobo (To Halekulani): Ya still don't get it, do ya? Everything in my boring life fuels my source of power! Everyone I see and meet, all my nearest and dearest friends, they give me my strength and power! You should realize that money is worth less than the paper you use to go to the toilet! I've been holding back on ya, but ya really wanna know what the most important thing in the world is, cause I got the answer! IT'S MONEEEEEY!
- Large Ham: Though most of the things he says make no sense.[2]
- Man Child: He acts pretty immature most of the time, except to protect his friends (when he's not being overly weird).
- Prehensile Hair: Nose hair is supposed to be his main fighting style, but it gets lost as Bobobo uses weirder and weirder techniques.
- The Stoic: 10% of the time, when a fight gets serious
- Not So Stoic: 90% of the time, when he's acting dumb or ridiculous[3].
- Sunglasses at Night: The only time we ever see his eyes is during flashbacks to when he was a kid. The second time, he's dead at the hands of Bibibi. He got better.
Beauty
Voiced by: Ai Nonaka (JP), Philece Sampler (credited as Vicky Green) (EN)
- Bare Your Midriff
- Blue Eyes
- The Chick/Tagalong Kid (by default)
- Cool Big Sis: After Heppokomaru/Gasser's sister Pokomi has her Heel Face Turn, she comes to view Beauty as this. She protects Beauty, and Beauty cheers her up when she gets upset.
- Damsel in Distress: Beauty is regularly put into danger, and Bobobo has to save her.
- Only Sane Girl: She is without a doubt the sanest member of the group. Even then, she has been known to occasionally accept the insanity of the show, and on very rare occasions, get involved.
- Morality Pet: To Bo-bobo and Softon.
- Rose-Haired Girl
- Ship Tease: With Heppokomaru/Gasser.
- Unfazed Everyman: Beauty can't really do anything besides look at the battles from the sidelines. Or get captured.
Don Patch/Poppa Rocks
Voiced by: Masaya Onosaka (JP), Kirk Thornton
An orange shaped...sun...thing that leads a gang against the Hair Hunt Troops, he is "beaten" at his own game by Bo-bobo and since then became his sidekick, in destroying the empire. He's mostly a Butt Monkey in the fights, but does mange to defeat some of his enemies on his own. He's arguably more of Cloudcuckoolander than Bobobo.
- Ambiguously Gay: With literally most of the people, he comes across with as Patches. Which is why he doesn't notice Bububu's feelings towards him.
- Attention Whore: Regularly attempts to steal the spotlight from other characters, because he believes that he is the actual star of the show. He even goes so far as to attack Beauty sometimes if she gets too much attention.
- Blue Eyes
- Butt Monkey: Like most of Bobobo's allies, Don Patch gets some really bad treatment during battles, from being used as a shield, to simply being attacked by Bobobo for no reason.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Definite one of the series.
- Crossdresser: Has a female persona named Patches. Patches is known to carry around with her a doll called Ya-ya that is treated like a child.
- Dub Name Change: His name was changed to "Poppa Rocks" in the English manga. Odd, considering the English dub calls him by his original name.
- Idiot Ball: Has the ability to summon a literal one. However, whoever is hit with it becomes the best student in their class... by cheating.
- He can also inject you with an Idiot Serum, which causes you to eventually think like him. Beauty finds this terrifying.
- Improbable Weapon User: He uses leeks, of all things!
- The Lancer: To Bobobo, being the most 2nd effective fighter of the whole group In his Super Patch form.
- Large Ham: The anime took this Up to Eleven
- Pie-Eyed: He's sometimes drawn this way.
- Small Name, Big Ego: Big time. He believes himself to be the show's real star, and constantly demands more speaking roles. In fact, sometimes his overinflated ego seems to give him more power.
Heppokomaru/Gasser
Voiced by: Naomi Shindo (JP), Brad MacDonald (EN)
A boy from a village destroyed by the Hair Hunt Troops led by (Captain) Battleship, and goes to Bo-bobo to get him to avenge him. He then gets a crush on Beauty and quickly becomes a Tagalong Kid as the enemies grow more and more out of his league. Ultimately, he joins the Hair Hunt Troop becoming the A- Block Commander until his defeat in Shinsetsu.
- Adult Child: Subverted. While he's not exactly an adult, when his collar is removed, he loses it and starts acting like an infant.
- Cross-Dressing Voices: In Japanese.
- Doomed Hometown: His hometown of Puu-puu City has been destroyed by the Hair Hunt troops and Captain Battleship.

- Face Heel Turn: In Shinsetsu.

- "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: In Shinsetsu.

- Not So Above It All: However, he is not to the degree of Beauty, as he is known to take a lot of the ridiculous antics as serious attacks/weapons.
- Official Couple: With Beauty.
- Super-Powered Evil Side: (also Shinsetsu)
- Tagalong Kid: While he does possess powers of his own, he does not do much fighting.
- The Smart Guy: He seems to have a heavy knowledge of fighting styles and famous weapons.
Gasser: Calamity Canyon. It's a form of ancient fighting that supposedly dates back to ancient Rome and the gladiators.
Beauty: DO YOU KNOW EVERYTHING!?
Softon
Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa (JP), Joe Ochman (JP)
A former member of the C-Block Troop, he is the first enemy to force Bo-bobo to go serious against. After his defeat, he is convinced by Bo-bobo to help him defeat Battleship who's kidnapped Beauty. After that, he does nothing to aid the group until the Halekulani Arc where he helps in one fight and does nothing till the Giga Arc, to which he has to fight his Evil Counterpart, J to which he loses to. He plays a larger role near the end of Part 1 where it's revealed that he is Beauty's older brother.
- Aloof Big Brother: He's Beauty's missing older brother. There are some very subtle hints peppered throughout that say so, but one has to squint to see them.
- Badass: He's probably one of the most badass characters when fighting. He summons a GODDESS! Well, a Goddess with a hilariously annoying accent...
- Bunny Ears Lawyer
- Getting Crap Past the Radar: Literally. The color of his head was changed from brown to pink in the anime, to make it look like (soft-serve) ice cream instead of...
- James Bondage: In the Hair Kingdom arc, leading to The Reveal that he his Beauty's sibling.
- Only Sane Man: Other than one instance in the Pomade Ring arc, Softon is completely sane and focused virtually a hundred percent of the time. While his methods of fighting and dialogue can be bizarre, he usually saves face, unlike Beauty and Gasser.
Softon: I want stars in my eyes!
Gasser: SOFTON, YOU'VE LOST IT! I thought he was supposed to be the normal one.
- The Smart Guy: He's the group's informant prior to Hatenko's entry into the group.
- Worthy Opponent: To J. In fact, J bestows his powers over the black sun to Softon after he manages to defeat J.

- Cloudcuckoolander: Not as much as Don or Bobobo, but he has his moments
- Crossdresser: Not at the same frequency as Don Patch or even Bobobo, but it does happen on several occasions. It usually only happens during battle when Don Patch is doing it.
- Large Ham: He is voiced by Jamieson Price after all.

- Yes-Man: To Don Patch.

Voiced by: Tomoko Kaneda (JP), Brian Beacock (EN)
The former again not from a hundred years ago leader of the Z-Block Troops, after being beaten by Bobobo, his only major roles in the series is getting the gang out of a cage and his Fusion Dance with Bobobo.

- Cross-Dressing Voices: In Japanese.
- Expy: Dengakuman has a notable resemblance to a white Chao from the Sonic Series.
- Informed Ability: He's the leader of Z-Block base, the most powerful of the Hair Hunt bases. One would assume him to be incredibly powerful, but he can simply be stopped by holding him back at arms length.
- Ridiculously Cute Critter: According to him, he's a puppy.
- Team Pet: A puppy lacking a nose, tail, ears, and with a weird growth on his head.
Narrator
Voice By: Shinichiro Ohta (JP), Michael McConnohie (EN)
An anime only character, he's the narrator of the series who often gets as Cloudcuckoolander as the rest of the cast.
- Gag Dub: In the Japanese version, all he does is narrate, while in the dub, he's given his own character, with problems such as his shrinking salary, and he even interacts with the on-screen cast.
- The Faceless
- Interactive Narrator: He speaks directly to the cast at many points, mostly to Beauty after she criticizes for not doing his job properly.
- Narrator: Obviously
