Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011

The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Selecting their song through the national final Nationaal Songfestival 2011, organised by Dutch broadcaster TROS. In July 2010 TROS announced that they had internally selected the male trio 3JS to represent Netherlands in at the Contest in Germany.

Before Eurovision

Artist selection

On 14 July 2010, popular radio DJ Giel Beelen spread the rumour that TROS had selected 3JS to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.[1] This was confirmed on 15 July 2010 during the morning radio show Gouden Uren, hosted by Daniël Dekker.[2][3]

Nationaal Songfestival 2011

The song that 3JS represented the Netherlands with was selected through a national final titled Nationaal Songfestival 2011. Five songs were provided by 3JS for the competition and were performed on 30 January 2011 at the Studio 21 in Hilversum, hosted by Yolanthe Sneijder-Cabau.[4] The winning song, "Je vecht nooit alleen", was selected by the votes of a five-member jury (50%) and public televoting (50%). The five-member jury panel consisted of René Froger (Dutch representative in 2009 as part of De Toppers), Eric van Tijn (producer), Daniël Dekker (radio DJ), Annemieke Schollaardt (radio DJ) and Hind Laroussi (Dutch representative in 2008).[5]

At Eurovision

Netherlands competed in the first half of the second semi-final of the contest, on 12 May. They failed to qualify and ended last in the second semi-final, marking the worst placing since the introduction of the semi-finals and the first last place since 1968.

  • In the Semi-final 2 Netherlands came 19th with 13 points: the public awarded Netherlands 19th place with 17 points and the jury awarded 18th place with 22 points.
