Eurosong '99

Eurosong '99 was held between 7 February and 28 February 1999. Three semi-finals were held for the contest, where the winner of each semi-final, as well as the highest scoring runner-up over all three semi-finals, qualified to the final, where they were joined by four more songs, internally selected by the Belgian broadcaster, Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT). The results of the semi-finals and final were determined through the votes of five juries: a three-member expert jury (consisting of Liliane Saint-Pierre, Anja Daems and Marcel Vanthilt); juries from two Belgian radio stations: Radio 2 and Radio Donna; a Eurojury consisting of European expats living in Belgium, along with the votes of televoting. The televote counted for 1/5 of the overall vote, with the other four juries counting for 4/5.[1]

Each of the three semi-finals and the final were held at the VRT TV Studios in Schelle, with all four shows hosted by Bart Peeters.

Competing entries

Artists and songwriters were able to submit their song entries from 1 November until 15 December 1998. From all 199 songs submitted to VRT, 21 songs were selected for the national final. VRT also invited composers to participate, with 4 songs being selected as pre-qualified finalists. The selected entries were announced on 12 January 1999.[1]
