Zaza Formation

The Zaza Formation is a geological formation located in Buryatia (Russia). It dates to the Lower Cretaceous period. It is Aptian in age and predominantly consists of lithified marl and carbonaceous siltstone that was deposited in a 20 to 30 metre deep well oxygenated intermontane lake situated on a granite massif. It is known for its numerous fossils of many varieties of insect.[1][2]
