History
The community was established in 1889 and was named Relief by the Northern Pacific Railway Company because the location was used for adding relief engines to heavy trains.
An artesian well was drilled by the railroad in 1903 to supply water for the steam engines. The excess water was sold water to nearby farmers.[3]
In November 1908, the railroad changed the name to Vista, because there was no longer a need for relief engines.[3][4]
