Overview

Rear view

The GR Super Sport Concept was first presented to the public in January 2018 at Tokyo Auto Salon.[1] The white painted body of the vehicle is supercar - typically flat and wide and modern safety standards on a mounted carbon-monocoque chassis.[2] At the front are large air intakes, which guide the air through channels behind the front wheels to the vehicle sides while driving. The technique is based on the Le Mans Prototype TS050 Hybrid racing car. The 2.4-liter direct-injected twin-turbo V6 engine and the Toyota Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R) technology were taken directly from the TS050. The system power is 735 kW (986 hp; 999 PS). The car has 18-inch rims and Bridgestone slicks with 330/710R18 size. A series production with street legalization is planned in small numbers. A date for the production start is not yet known.[3]

2021 Le Mans

In 2018, The FIA and ACO confirmed that the existing LMP1 Category will be replaced by a new Hypercar class from the 2021 season .[4] In this new class, the FIA World Endurance Championship will feature sports cars designed to look more like road vehicles than previous Le Mans prototypes. Toyota is among the manufacturers involved in the creation of the new category. The GR Super Sport Concept is considered a preview of the later vehicles in the Hypercar class.[5]
