The artist, Kenan Doğulu, had produced the hit song Çakkıdı in 2006. He had submitted three songs to the Eurovision song contest 2007, out of which Shekerim was chosen.
Chorus and lyrics
Shekerim has a hip hop melody resembling that of Çakkıdı. An electric guitar bass line can be heard as an introduction. The song then blends in with Anatolian music with the indigenous bağlama instrument popular among Balkan and neighbours of Turkey including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Greece and Iran. The chorus then starts, whilst the song pauses at about the midpoint, traditional Turkish music similar to the Horon dancers is heard.
