Pelli Sandadi

Pelli Sandadi (English: Wedding Bells) is a 1996 Indian Telugu-language musical romance film written, and directed by K. Raghavendra Rao.[1] The family drama stars Srikanth, Ravali and Deepti Bhatnagar.[2] This film was extensively shot in the Konaseema of Andhra Pradesh. It was a major blockbuster of the year 1996.[3] Pelli Sandadi has garnered three state Nandi Awards, and the Filmfare Award Telugu for Best Music.[4] The film was also remade in bollywood as Mere Sapno Ki Rani.[5][6] and in Tamil as Ninaithen Vandhai.

Plot

Vijay Krishna (Srikanth) is a musician from a musical family. He lives with two married sisters and their husbands and his uncle. All of his family is dedicated to Music. His father (Satyanarayana) forces him to marry, but he was in search of a girl whom he saw in a dream. He never saw her face in the dream but he saw a mole beside her navel. The story continues in search of the girl. Meanwhile, his father arranges his marriage with a Kalyani ([Ravali]), who belongs to a nearby village. Ravali also belongs to a music family.

Meanwhile Vijay gets a job in Ooty as a music lecturer. There he finds his dream girl Swapna Deepti Bhatnagar. He fell in love with her and proposes to her which she accepts. He comes back home to share the news about his love, but meanwhile, his father arranges the marriage. And the story continues. Later Swapna comes to know the person she loves and Kalyani's fiance are the same. Swapna and Kalyani are actually sisters. Swapna then sacrifices her love and informs that she has a deadly disease. She asks Vijay as a last wish to marry Kalyani. Meanwhile, Kalyani also comes to know that Vijay loves her Younger sister Swapna. Finally, Kalyani convinces her sister to marry Vijay.

This film created wonders in run. After "Premabhishekam"(1981) it is the movie which run nearly in 29 centres for 175 days. The Telugu films which had running in more than 25 centres for 175 days are Premabhishekam (1981), Pellisandadi (1996), Samarasimha Reddy (1999), Nuvve Kavali (2000), Indra (2002), Simhadri (2003), and Pokiri (2006).

Soundtrack

The soundtrack of the film was composed by M. M. Keeravani. Each song is set in major raagas of Carnatic music, such as Hindolam.[7]
