History

The locality name was formerly a railway station name, used from 19 December 1912, reportedly using an Aboriginal word (Waka language, Dungibara dialect, Koolaburra clan), meaning watershed.[1]

Nukku State School opened on 28 May 1928. It closed on 1967.[2] The former school building now houses the Roy Emerson Museum in Blackbutt.[3]

Notable residents

Tennis great Roy Emerson attended Nukku State School for his early education.
