Nine Perfect Strangers (miniseries)

Nine Perfect Strangers is an upcoming American drama web television miniseries based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty. The series is created by David E. Kelley and John Henry Butterworth that is slated to be released in 2021 on Hulu.[1][2]

Development

On May 1, 2019, it was reported that Hulu had given the production a straight-to-series order. The limited series was created by David E. Kelley and John Henry Butterworth who are also expected to executive produce alongside Nicole Kidman, Per Saari, Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, and Casey Haver. Production companies involved with the limited series were slated to consist of Made Up Stories, Blossom Films, and Endeavor Content.[1] It is also slated to premiere in 2021.[2] On January 7, 2020, Melissa McCarthy joined the miniseries as an executive producer.[4] In July 2020, it was announced Jonathan Levine is set to direct all eight episodes of the limited series while Gillian Bohrer joined the series as producer.[5] Yves Bélanger will serve as cinematographer.[6]

Casting

Alongside the initial series announcement, it was reported that Nicole Kidman was cast in a lead role.[7] In addition to her executive producing announcement, Melissa McCarthy had also joined the cast in a starring role.[4] On May 27, 2020, Manny Jacinto joined the main cast.[8] In June 2020, Asher Keddie and Luke Evans were in starring roles.[9][10] In July 2020, Melvin Gregg Samara Weaving, Grace Van Patten, Tiffany Boone and Michael Shannon were cast in starring roles.[2][11][12][13][14] In August 2020, Regina Hall and Bobby Cannavale joined the cast in starring roles.[15][16]

Filming

On July 8, 2020, Evans revealed that filming will take place in Australia. Evans also revealed that all actors are required to quarantine for 14 days in the city of arrival in Australia, due to regulations imposed by the Australian government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, all actors are required to be tested during the quarantine before filming can begin.[17] Principal photography began on August 10, 2020, in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia.[18]
