Nigeria at major beauty pageants
This is a list of Nigeria's official representatives and their placements at the Big Four international beauty pageants, considered the most important in the world. The country has won one victory:
- One — Miss World crown (2001)
Hundreds of beauty pageants are conducted yearly, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious,[1] widely covered and broadcast by media.[2] The Wall Street Journal,[3] BBC News,[4] CNN,[5] Xinhua News Agency,[6] and global news agencies such as Reuters[7] and Agence France-Presse[8][9] collectively refer to the four major pageants as "Big Four" namely: Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth.[10][11][12]
The Nigerian franchise holders of the four major beauty pageants are the following:
- Silverbird Group[13] — Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria[14][15] for both Miss Universe[16] and Miss World.[17]
- Daniel Opuene — Beauty of African International Pageant for Miss International [18]
- Ibinabo Fiberesima[19][20] — Miss Earth Nigeria[21] for Miss Earth.[22]
The criteria for the Big Four inclusion is based on specific standards such as the pageants global prominence and prestige approved by worldwide media, the quality and quantity of crowned delegates recognized by international franchisees and pageant aficionados, the winner's post pageant activities; the pageants longevity, consistency, and history; the pageant's specific purpose, relevance, and advocacy; the overall production quality and global telecast; the enormity of internet traffic; and the popularity amongst pageant fans across the globe.[23]
Nigeria's Big Four titleholders
