മാഢ്യവ്യന്‍ എന്നൊരു മുനി പൂജാദി കര്‍മങ്ങള്‍ക്കു വേണ്ടി നിരവധി ബ്രഹ്മണരെ ഇവിടെ കുടിയിരുത്തുകയും അവരുടെ താമസത്തിനു നാടിന്‍റെ പല ഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ ഒട്ടനവധി മഠങ്ങള്‍ നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നുവത്രെ.

സ്ഥലനമോല്‍പത്തി മഠങ്ങളുടെ ഊര് മഠവൂര്‍ ആയി. തലമുറകള്‍ പറഞ്ഞ് പറഞ്ഞ് പിന്നീട് ഗ്രാമ്യഭാഷയില്‍ മടവൂര്‍ ആയി.
