Lomnice nad Popelkou (German: Lomnitz an der Popelka) is a town in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 5,600 inhabitants.

History

10 kreuzer in 1859 – Lomnitz bei Gitschin

Until 1918, the town was part of the Austrian monarchy (Austria side after the compromise of 1867), in the Semily – Semil district, one of the 94 Bezirkshauptmannschaften in Bohemia.[2] The stamp shows Franz-Jozef I with the town name until 1896 Lomnitz bei Gitschin. Various bilingual names were used before 1900:

  • Lomnitz b. Jicin – Lomnice u Jičína
  • Lomnice v Jičínsku – Lomnic Jicinerkreis
  • Lomnice nad Popelkou – Lomnitz a.d. Popelka[3]

Sport

The town has a notable ski club, represented by ski jumpers such as Roman Koudelka or Čestmír Kožíšek.
