List of foreign players for East Bengal F.C.

East Bengal FC has been one of the most successful teams in Indian Football. Since the Independence of India, East Bengal FC attracted a huge number of Foreign players and regularly featured big names from across the world, with players who even represented their nation to the FIFA World Cup.

History

The first ever Foreign recruit to play for East Bengal FC was Fred Pugsley of Myanmar who joined East Bengal FC in 1942.[1] Since then a lot many numbers of players donned the famous Red and Gold of East Bengal FC.
Majid Bishkar of Iran is still considered as the greatest ever Foreigner to play in Indian soil,[2][3] who joined East Bengal FC in 1980 after featuring in the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina.

East Bengal FC have recruited some big names in Indian football scenario, some of whom have played their trade in Europe's top 5 leagues[5] : Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

In 1987–88, East Bengal FC recruited John Devine, the former Arsenal F.C. player who was the first to play in Indian football, after playing in Europe's top 5 leagues.
