List of NCAA Division II football programs
This is a list of the schools in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States and Canada that have football as a varsity sport. In the 2020 season, there are a total of 164 Division II football programs – three fewer than in 2019. Changes from 2019 are:
- Allen University began a transition from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
- Barton College and Erskine College reinstated football.
- Dixie State University and Tarleton State University began transitions to Division I, joining the non-football Western Athletic Conference, with the football teams competing as independents in the second tier of D-I football, the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
- St. Cloud State University, University of Minnesota Crookston, and Florida Institute of Technology dropped the sport.
- Urbana University closed.
NCAA Division II football programs
- Reclassifying institutions in yellow.
- Transitioning from the NAIA.
- Azusa Pacific – GNAC / Primary: Pacific West Conference.
- Barton – Independent / Primary: Conference Carolinas.[1]
- Chowan – Primary affiliation changed to Conference Carolinas, but remains a CIAA football associate.
- Erskine – Independent / Primary: Conference Carolinas.[2]
- Transitioning from Division III.
- Lincoln (MO) football rejoined the remainder of its sports in the MIAA after that league lost a football-sponsoring member.
- UNC Pembroke – MEC / Primary: Peach Belt Conference.
- North Greenville – Gulf South / Primary: Conference Carolinas.
- Transitioning from Division I FCS.
