History

Koyamma, the goddess worshiped by chieftain Koyan evolved into Koniamma and the name of the city Koyambuthur could have been derived from Kovaiamma.[1] The temple dates back to 16th century A.D.[2] A 84 feet (26 m) gopuram, the tallest in the region was completed in 2011 at a cost of 1.75 crore (US$250,000).[3]
