History and planning

Rasuna Said Street was a relatively new thoroughfare in Jakarta. The Rasuna Said Street was planned in the 1970s during the oil boom period of Indonesia, a period in Jakarta where the economy grew quick but city planning and environmental impact were taken aside. Rasuna Said street planning was made by extending HOS Cokroaminoto Street in Menteng area to the south to meet Gatot Subroto Road. In this plan, the south end of Rasuna Said Street is connected with Gatot Subroto Road via a partial cloverleaf interchange.[1] This cloverleaf interchange plan has not been implemented yet.

Rasuna Said Street had already been completed by 1979. The first building on Rasuna Said Street was Gelanggang Soemantri Brojonegoro Sports Complex (1974),[2] Gedung Wanita (demolished, now Gama Tower), and Setiabudi Building complex.

Southwest of Kuningan Road was planned as Future Kuningan Kompleks, which would contain a complex of embassies. This complex has been developed now as Mega Kuningan, the most expensive area in Jakarta, where the embassies of Hungary, Switzerland, Dutch, Indian, Singapore and Poland now stand.[1]

In the 1990s, Jalan Professor Dr. Satrio and Jalan Casablanca would extend from Jalan Kyai Haji Mas Mansyur through to Tebet, passing Rasuna Said Street in the middle via an underpass. In the 2010s, a flyover was constructed to ease the congestion.[1]

gollark: Why would you abbreviate testosterone to TST?!
gollark: Well, that was unhelpful.
gollark: ddg! TST (apioforms)
gollark: Besides, we have chair technology.
gollark: I don't see the advantage of sitting like that. It just seems vaguely painful.
