History

On 10 October 2011 Honda announced at the National Business Aviation Association Convention and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, that the company would construct an 80,000-square-foot customer service facility near the world headquarters as an expansion of Honda Aircraft Company's world headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina. The $80 million expansion is expected to add over 400 jobs to the city.[4]

The corporate headquarters are located at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, where the HondaJet was also developed and flight tested.[5] Honda Motors invested over $200 million between 2006 and 2015 to expand the Honda Aircraft Company facilities to an over 133-acre campus.[5][6] In April 2009 the company announced a delayed schedule with test flights in early 2010 and deliveries beginning in late 2011.[7] In August 2010 Honda announced further delays: test flights would begin in November, but actually happened on 21 December 2010, and first deliveries to customers were originally planned to be in 2012.[8]

On 8 December 2015 the Federal Aviation Administration officially type certified the HondaJet.[9] The first delivery occurred on 23 December 2015.[10]

Honda Aircraft Company grew its business outside of North America shortly after the HondaJet received FAA type certification in late 2015. In May 2016, the HondaJet received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification, and Honda Aircraft Company began deliveries to European customers shortly thereafter.[11] In 2018, Honda Aircraft established a presence in India, the Middle East, South America, and Southeast Asia by partnering with dealerships across various countries to sell its aircraft.[12] Aircraft deliveries to Japanese customers began in 2019 after the HondaJet Elite received certification from Japanese authorities in late 2018.[13] In early 2019, Honda Aircraft began deliveries to Canadian customers after the HondaJet Elite received type certification from Transport Canada.[14] In August 2019, the HondaJet Elite received certification from the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration, and began deliveries that December.[15]

On 20 May 2019 company announced they were building a new 15.5 million dollar facility in Greensboro N.C.[16]
