Groove Zone

The Groove Zone is a short wave radio show on Radio Taiwan International (RTI), English Division. It is hosted by Ellen Chu and Andrew Ryan. Mr. Ryan and Ms. Chu talk about life in Taiwan with each other and with the world. They talk about everything from ancient Chinese ceremonies, to the overzealous gamers in the Taipei internet cafes.

The show is aired on Friday night/Saturday in the English hour on RTI as well as on Saturday via the internet.[1]

Guests include various arts people as well as crafts people, usually from Taiwan, including museum curators, fine crafters and some people from the arts as well.

The cards and letters come in from all over the world with comments, suggestions and stories. They always play one or two popular Taiwanese songs that according to Andrew have some relation to the "topic" of the week, whatever it happens to be that week. The other major feature is "are you really going to eat that?!", where one of them comes up with some fairly strange food for the other to try. The other one usually does eat it, but not always.

On one show Andrew and Ellen did a call out and interviewed listeners in Asia, Australia and North America. Andrew and Ellen have been working the Groove Zone since 2001. When they started the show they were both in their twenties.
