Gour Mahavidyalaya
Gour Mahavidyalaya (abbreviated as GM) is a college in Old Malda in the Malda district of West Bengal, India. The college is affiliated to the University of Gour Banga,[1] offering undergraduate courses. It is the only college in Malda and nearby districts which offers a 3-year B.A. (Honours) degree in Mass Communication and Journalism. The college is located at Mangal Bari, a neighborhood of Old Malda, under UA city of Malda.

Geography
The Gour Mahavidyalaya is situated on the north side of Mahananda River at Mangal Bari the neighbourhood of Old Malda Municipality in Old Malda under Malda City Urban Agglomeration region in Malda district of West Bengal, India.
History
The College provides Co-Education. The College was started 5 September 1985 in a small room in the campus and now has marched to its present position. In 2008 the college is affiliated to the University of Gour Banga, offering undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses with several subjects.
Accreditation
Now the college is accredited Grade B+ (2nd Cycle) by NAAC.[2] It is also recognized by the UGC.[3]

Library
The Library was running with a small accommodation but within a short span of period it has been provided with adequate space and facilities.
Previously as per our old structure the library building was in the old premises. Later on when the new building constructed the library has been shifted in new premises named as Jnan Bhaban on 2014. Now The Central Library is two tiers, total area of the library 4080.28 sqft. Science, Journalism and Reference Section housed in Ground floor and Language, Literature, Humanities & Social Science in 1st floor.
Today the library has a collection of about 22,900 books and 186 Pamphlets. In addition to this publication B. R. Ambedkar is kept as special collection consisting 418 books and 4 pamphlets. Along with this there is a separate Book Bank consisting 171 books. Book Bank facilities are open only for poor students. Some books have been purchased for SC& ST students only from Remedial fund consisting 1706 books and 11 pamphlets. Some books have been purchased for minority community students only from Remedial fund consisting 1333 books and 11 pamphlets. It has adequate facilities with easy access to all its members. It is open to all bona fide students, teachers and other members of the college.
Canteen
There is a single storied structure near the main gate where the students and staff of the college can buy food at a subsidized rate .It is run by an organization that functions during the working hours of the College. The College authority provides furniture, refrigerator, gas, purified water & electric supply to the organization. The seating capacity of the canteen is forty. A variety of snacks including meals during lunch hours is available for students and staff. As per UGC guidelines, the College has implemented a ban on junk food in the college canteen.
Student Health Home
Students Health Home is a self-help movement. It is not a charitable organization. Since 1952 it is run by the Students, Eminent Doctors, and Social Workers. At present about 23 lac students are its member throughout West Bengal. At present 40 regional centers in the different districts of West Bengal are serving the students, from primary to the university level. More than 200 doctors are giving their service free of cost. Many teachers are devoting their time voluntarily to serve the students. AT Apex & Regional Centers, Students of member Institution can avail medical facilities at minimum cost. The annual expenditure is about Rs 2 crores. Maximum money is contributed as universal membership subscription @ Rs.10 per student per year. Beside each year Government of West Bengal give some amount as Grant-In-Aid. Philanthropic Organization & Peoples are requested to donate generously as much as possible to run the prestigious organization.
