The GESM motto of “Learning together for our future” and its vision of "empowering global citizens as lifelong learners committed to a sustainable future" expresses engagement with an education that helps student develop into world citizens, living the values of a UNESCO school: integrity, respect, compassion, responsibility, and independence.
As part of the European International School on the first Eurocampus worldwide, GESM is a German and at the same time an international school that has twice been awarded the "Seal of Excellence" by the President of the German Federal Republic for meeting the quality standards set by the German government.
In addition to that, GESM offers a Cambridge Curriculum and IGCSE, and it is an IB World School with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the Primary Years Programme.

History
It was founded as "Jose-Rizal Schule" in honor of the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal in 1980. It has been recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, now the Department of Education.
In 1992, the former Jose-Rizal Schule and the École Française de Manille united to form the Eurocampus Manila, the first of its kind worldwide. In 2003 EIS started the IBDP programme. In 2004, following the example of the GESS in Singapore, a "Euro-Section" was established, later renamed "International Section".
Organization
The German European School Manila has two sections: the German Section, leading to official German exams after the 9th and 10th grades, and an International Section, formerly called Eurosection, starting with the PYP in Primary and going on with the Cambridge and IGCSE-programmes in Secondary.
Students can change from the International to the German Section, students without previous German are integrated through immersive language learning in GESM's bilingual Kindergarten and through an intensive language trainiung programme allowing entrance into grades 1-7 without previous knowledge of German.
Both sections lead to the IB Diploma Programme in classes 11 and 12. Students are offered the option to foster their German language skills in special courses or in one ore more subjects like Biology, History, Mathematics and Chemistry where tuition is offered in German.
GESM provides not only a highly international environment but offers transition to any German and international school and university, as well as to the German Dual Study System and to 450 Vocational Training Programmes in Germany.
With its multicultural character in an environment of more than three languages, two of them taught at mother tongue level, the school describes itself as offering a unique opportunity to prepare students to be qualified and responsible members in a global community.
The school is recognized and supported financially and in personnel by the German government and follows the German G8-curriculum, the Cambridge IGCSE programme and the IB programme.
Non-German speakers are prepared for the DSD I and DSD II exams, German native speakers for the Cambridge Language exams up to the Certificate of Proficiency.
