An EASA Part-145, Part-M, Part-147, Part-21, FAA-145 (Indonesia) certified company, FL Technics serves a wide range of Boeing, Airbus, ATR, Embraer and other types of aircraft.[2]
FL Technics is a part of Avia Solutions Group, which is led by Jonas Janukenas, CEO[3], and Gediminas Ziemelis, Chairman of the Board. Zilvinas Lapinskas is the CEO of FL Technics. [4]
History
2005 - Company Establishment
The company was founded in Lithuania and opened its first hangar at the Vilnius International Airport.[5]
2007– Initial Expansion at the Main Airport
The company added a second hangar at the Vilnius International Airport.[6] Since then FL Technics occupies 2 aircraft maintenance hangars, a warehouse, and backshop facilities at the Vilnius International Airport – 13 742 sq. meters in total. The hangars are comprised of 5 airframe maintenance bays.[7]
2009 – Agreements with International Airlines
In May, the Company signed an agreement with Slovakian air company Seagle Air on periodical technical maintenance of Boeing 737.[8]
In July, the Company has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Costa Rican aircraft MRO concerning the provision of FL Technics services at their technical base for the heavy maintenance for the long-range Boeing 757-200 aircraft.[9]
In October, the company signed contracts with Air Italy and Air Slovakia for Boeing 737-300 aircraft base maintenance.[10]
At the end of the year, the company was rebranded to FL Technics.[11]
2010 - Another year of service portfolio expansion
In February, FL Technics purchased a Boeing 737-300 airframe from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).[12]
In June, FL Technics expanded its PART-145 maintenance capabilities with Boeing 737-600/700/800/900 base maintenance services.[13]
In August, the company expanded its maintenance training capabilities with ATR 42 - 200/300 and ATR 72 -100/200 theoretical training services. The same month, FL Technics purchased a second Boeing 737-300 fuselage for part-out.[14]
In December, FL Technics added Airbus A318/A319/A320/A321 to its PART-M capability list.[15]
By the end of the year, FL Technics began operating nine line stations – three in Kazakhstan, two in Tajikistan, and the remaining four located in UK, Italy, Russia, and Vilnius.[16]
2011 - Acquisition of UK Company and the continuation of service portfolio growth
In February, FL Technics serviced the first Airbus A320 aircraft. Airbus A320 aircraft family was added to the EASA Part-145 certificate of FL Technics. The certification was carried out by the Civilian Aviation Administration of Lithuania.[17]
In June, FLT Technics received a Part-M certificate allowing the company to manage the continuing airworthiness of the Embraer EMB- 135/145 family aircraft.[18][19]
In July, FL Technics added Wizz Air to its list of line maintenance customers. The company began providing Wizz Air with fixed-price all-inclusive line maintenance support, coupled with additional support services.[20] During that same month, FL Technics has acquired 7 Boeing 737-300s aircraft from AirAsia for tear down into parts and components. The aircraft were disassembled in Malaysia. This acquisition enabled FL Technics to increase service level by maintaining a wider range of stock of spare parts and components.[21][22]
In August, FL Technics received a certificate to provide engineering services to Bombardier CL600-2B19.[23] In the same month, FL Technics launched cabin modification and reconfiguration services on two brand new long-range Boeing 737-800 and cabin refurbishment services on Boeing 737-300 for Transaero Airlines.[24][25]
In September, FL Technics acquired the UK-based Storm Aviation Limited.[26] The acquired company allowed FL Technics to begin performing Line Maintenance services for narrow body and wide body aircraft in a network of 24 Line Stations across Europe and the CIS and expanded FL Technics aircraft capabilities into Airbus A330, Airbus A340, Airbus A380, Boeing 747, Boeing 767, Boeing 777 and other types of aircraft.[27] During September, FL Technics also extended its partnership with Europe Airpost to provide maintenance services for the airline's 3 Boeing 737 CL aircraft.[28]
2012 – EASA Certificates
In April, FL Technics received EASA Part 21 Design Organization Approval that enables FL Technics to design and approve minor changes and minor repairs to aircraft in the area of the cabin interior and associated changes to avionics and structures. This certificate expands capabilities for FL Technics to complete minor design and modification tasks in-house. Design modifications mainly relate to changes in cabin layouts, interior furnishing installations, galley installations and repairs, in-flight entertainment associated reconfigurations and system improvements.[29] That same month, FL Technics received a spare parts ISO 9001-2088 audit and certification for quality control.[30]
During the same month, FL Technics extended its cooperation with UK based low-cost carrier easyJet, by signing a three-year agreement for line maintenance services on nine Airbus A319s aircraft, at Manchester Airport and Newcastle International Airport.[31] According to the agreement, FL Technics’ subsidiary Storm Aviation was to provide line maintenance support for six easyJet Airbus A319s aircraft at Manchester Airport and also secured the easyJet base in Newcastle (in the North East of England), where they carried out maintenance works for three easyJet Airbus A319s.[32]
In May, FL Technics became a sales representative for the UK parts distributor Aero Inventory in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).[33]
In October, FL Technics signed a three-year Engineering Support agreement with the Afghani national air carrier Ariana Afghan Airlines. FL Technics began providing comprehensive engineering services to the airlines’ 4 Boeing 737 aircraft.[34]
In December, FL Technics and Ariana Afghan Airline launched the first EASA Part-145 Line Station in Afghanistan.[35]
2013 – New Engine Support Package
In February, FL Technics signed a partnership agreement with the aviation component supplier Seal Dynamics. Under the agreement, FL Technics became the exclusive sales and marketing representative of Seal Dynamics in Russia, the CIS, and twelve CEE states.[36]
In May, FL Technics signed a partnership agreement with XTRA Aerospace. The agreement allowed the companies to establish a Boeing 737 NG and CL component stock in Vilnius, Lithuania.[37]
In September, FL Technics extended its list of engine management services and introduced a new CF34-3 engine support package.[38]
2014 – Expanding Capacities in Lithuania
FL Technics built a hangar in Kaunas. It is the largest and most technologically equipped hangar in Eastern Europe and CIS countries.[39] Shortly following the issuance of its EASA Part-145 certificate, the FL Technics’ 8500 sq. m. maintenance [OD1] facilities in Kaunas, Lithuania completed scheduled maintenance works on four aircraft.[40]
In February, FL Technics added landing-gear capabilities for Airbus A320-family and Boeing 727 aircraft.[41] The same month, FL Technics added wide body MRO capabilities to its Part-145 repair station certificate, starting with the Airbus A330.[42]
In June, FL Technics Training signed an agreement to provide Boeing 737 technical training to the South American maintenance service company Aeroman. The company worked under a technical training certificate from El Salvador’s Civil Aviation Authority.[43]
In August, FL Technics Training expanded the range of its services by launching Online Training™, an Internet-based platform providing online EASA-compliant courses. The platform covers a set of specialized continuing and re-current courses, supplemented by the issuance of relevant certificates upon successful completion of the courses.[44]
2015 – Office in the USA
In March, FL Technics launched engine, APU, and landing gear MRO consulting services.[45]
In September, FL Technics received Part-145 approval from EASA to cover Sukhoi Superjet (SSJ) 100-95 aircraft.[46]
In November, FL Technics set up a representative office in Miami.[47] With the establishment of a representative office in Florida, FL Technics was able to directly work with local suppliers.[48][49]
In December, FL Technics signed of a 4-year-long CAMO support agreement with Somon Air. FL Technics also provided the carrier with Engine Condition Monitoring services. Under the long-term agreement, FL Technics supported the Tajikistani carrier’s Boeing 737NG and CL fleet with complete Continuing Airworthiness Management services.[50]
2016 – Rapid expansion in Asia
In September, FL Technics started cooperating in a Power-by-Hour (PBH) program with the Thai cargo airline K-Mile Asia. FL Technics began ensuring a continuous supply of spare parts for the carrier’s Boeing 737 freighters.[51][52]
In October, FL Technics expanded the range of its Continuous Airworthiness Management capabilities by adding Airbus A330 aircraft type to its EASA Part-M approval.[53]
In December, FL Technics opened its MRO hangar at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (IATA: CGK) in Jakarta, Indonesia. The 20 000 sq. ft. facility accommodates up to three narrow body aircraft at a time and is certified to service Boeing 737 NG and CL as well as Airbus A319/A320/A321.[54][55][56]
2017 – Services for Wide-Body Aircraft
In February, FL Technics introduced Base and Line Maintenance services for the wide-body aircraft Airbus A330. The expanded EASA Part-145 approval allowed FL Technics to begin conducting a wider range of maintenance work on Airbus A330, powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines.[57]
In May, FL Technics became an approved supplier of Asia’s leading airlines, including Asiana Airlines, AirAsia X, Nok Air, Bangkok Airways, T’way Airlines, and Indonesia’s GMF AeroAsia. A local spare parts support team in Bangkok, Thailand, as well as an AOG desk in Vilnius, Lithuania allowed FL Technics to provide 24/7 spare parts support to its Asian customers.[58]
In December, FL Technics gained two clients from Lufthansa Group: Germanwings and Swiss International Air.[59][60][61]
2018 – New International Customers
In January, FL Technics signed an agreement with the Bulgarian national carrier Bulgaria Air.[62][63]
In February, Eurowings Europe from the Lufthansa Group became one of FL Technics’ clients.[64][65]
In March, FL Technics signed an agreement with Corendon Dutch Airlines to provide base maintenance services for all of their fleet.[66] The company signed an agreement with WOW Air to provide base maintenance services to two Airbus A321s, in April 2018.[67][68][69]
In September, Lufthansa Group Chose FL Technics for 28 Airbus 320s maintenance.[70] During the same month, the national flag carrier of Luxembourg chooses FL Technics for its Boeing 737NGs.[71]
In October, FL Technics Indonesia received an Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam.[72]The same month, China Aircraft Leasing Group (CALC), its Aircraft Recycling International (ARI) unit, and FL Technics have formed an MRO joint venture, called FL ARI.[73]
In November, FL Technics opened a new warehouse in Singapore.[74]
2019 – Expansion of service portfolio and training capabilities
In February, FL Technics signed an exclusive representation agreement with French hydraulic solutions company Deshons Hydraulique.[75] In the same month, FL Technics signs exclusive seating deal with JHAS.[76]
In March, FL Technics signed a joint operations agreement to open an EASA certified Line maintenance station in Dubai International Airport (DXB).[77]
In April, South Jeolla Province signed an agreement with FL Technics to develop MRO facility at Muan Airport.[78]
In July, FL Technics has begun implementing VR modules for the basic training of aviation mechanics. The company has presented its first VR module, which covers the opening of the reverse thrust engine of a Boeing 737NG, and is set to expand its list of modules in the coming months to cover the full scope of maintenance training.[79] It is expected that virtual reality could cut the maintenance training time 75 percent.[80]
In September, FL Technics expanded its EASA Part-145 approval with Airbus A320neo family type (LEAP-1A & PW 1100G) for Line maintenance services.[81]
2020 – further expansion
In February, 2020 FL Technics acquired Italian line maintenance services provider Flash Line Maintenance S.r.l., expanding its line maintenance network to 50 stations.[82]
