Doksany

Doksany (German Doxan) is a village and municipality (obec) in Litoměřice District in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic.

Geography

The municipality covers an area of 3.1 square kilometres (1.2 sq mi), and has a population of 369 (as at 31 December 2007).

Doksany lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) south of Litoměřice, 25 km (16 mi) south of Ústí nad Labem, and 45 km (28 mi) north-west of Prague.

Hydropower plant

The Doksany Hydropower Plant is located 10 kilometres away from the Ohře river.[1]

History

The oldest settlement dates back to 4500 and 2,500 B.C. In 1993, archaeologists discovered more ancient buildings and settlements that dated back to the same period of time.[2]

During the last few centuries, the Celts have been living in the area.[2]

Climate

During the June 2019 European heat wave, Doksany broke the record for the hottest temperature in June in the Czech Republic.[3] The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute claimed that the temperature reached 38.5 Celsius and 101.3 Fahrenheit and warned that it could change to 40 degrees Celsius.[4]
