March 31 – Abellio ScotRail franchise to conclude[1] – Utsunomiya LRT opening (after delays).
April
April 22 – Caltrain is scheduled to begin electrified service along the San Francisco Peninsula.[2] – Expected delayed completion of the Regional Connector in Los Angeles.[3]
May
May 6 – Expected completion of Toronto's Eglinton Crosstown light rail project.[4] – The Link light rail Line T is expected to be extended to the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington.[5][6][7]
August
August 18 – Scheduled latest opening of Maryland's Purple Line light rail,[8] though it is expected to be delayed to 2026.[9][10] – Expected start of passenger service through the Regional Connector in Los Angeles.[11]
October
– Earliest opening of the Line 1 of the Tel Aviv Light Rail.[12]
December
– Service begins along New York City's East Side Access, bringing Long Island Rail Road trains into Grand Central Terminal.[13] – Dallas Silver Line commuter rail scheduled to open.[14] – Expected completion of Wendlingen–Ulm high-speed railway. – The Follo Line is expected to open after delay. – Extension of Tamsui–Xinyi line in Taipei to Guangci–Fengtian Temple opens. – Lagos Rail Mass Transit estimated opening.

The state says the eastern section, from New Carrollton to College Park, is now expected to open in late 2022 and the rest of the line, from College Park to Bethesda, will likely open in June 2023. However, PLTP has said the various delays will set the opening dates back at least another two and a half years.
