The global Škoda Kamiq is a subcompact crossover SUV, that was designed, and has been produced by the Czech car manufacturer Škoda Auto from the end of June 2019, after it debuted at the February 2019 Geneva Auto Show.[3] Deliveries officially started in September 2019.[4] It is based on the concept Vision X, which Škoda first introduced to the public in 2018. As with the Karoq and Kodiaq, the Kamiq name is based on a word from the Inuit language.[5]

While it takes styling cues from both the Karoq and Kodiaq to ensure a continuity between Skoda's SUVs, the Kamiq has several distinctive features, including a more upright grille and an optional narrow LED running lights. As with the new Scala, the boot displays the Skoda name in letters instead of the circular Skoda logo.[6]

The car is built on the Volkswagen Group MQB A0 platform used by the Seat Arona and Volkswagen T-Cross, while offering more interior space than both. Škoda claims firm claims that the Kamiq has more rear leg room than in the Octavia and Karoq.[5] The Kamiq is only offered with front-wheel drive only since it is aimed primarily to families in urban areas.[5]

The global version of the Kamiq is unrelated to the Chinese Kamiq, as the latter is larger and built on an older platform, but Škoda chose to name both as the Kamiq they are the smallest SUVs it offers in each market.

The Chinese Kamiq is a subcompact SUV that was designed and built in China by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture of the Czech car manufacturer Škoda Auto. It was introduced at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show in April, and launched in June 2018, positioned below the Škoda Karoq compact crossover SUV.[8] The price of the Škoda Kamiq ranges from 109,900 to 130,900 yuan.[9][10]

This version is slightly larger than the international version. A single engine variant is offered: a 1.5-litre (81 kW) with a six speed automatic transmission. Just like the Škoda Kodiaq GT, a sportier version called the Škoda Kamiq GT was available from 2019, featuring a redesigned front fascia and rear body section.
