The Touch
'The Touch' was an acquired instinct that allowed a sky pirate captain to deftly maneuver his sky ship through all conditions. The art of controlling a sky ship was complicated, with many levers attached to the various hanging weights which controlled the direction of the sky ship. Those with 'the touch' knew these levers and weights by heart and were able to control the movement of their sky ship with the smallest touches. Most well known sky pirate captains probably had 'the touch'.
'The touch' in the Second Age of Flight
In the second age of flight skilled sail-setters were also said to have 'the touch'.[1] The art of flying a skycraft was similar to that of sky-sailing in that both used ropes, sails and weights. However, skycraft were much more small and fragile than sky ships, so the balance was more delicate.
